Tom Landry Classic no longer at SMU?

Post by Hoop Fan »

i hear it will be at Allen Stadium this year, still Labor Day weekend. Too bad, it was a good showcase for SMU. Aren't we playing Tech on Sunday? Not sure why we couldnt still host the Tom Landry on Saturday but maybe a facilities issue.

I was told that the contractor for the stadium expansion, regarding the Tech game on the Saturday, asked if it was a day or night game. My guess is the Tom Landry Classic were told that even if we moved the Tech game to Sunday, the stadium might not be fully completed.

Why play here? Allen is a better stadium for crowds in the low 20's

Parking situation, Allen definitely has the upper hand.

Heard that this was going to be happening all the way back in October, so has been in the works for a while.

They have standing room party decks to get to 20k or so. Very very nice small venue.

Mustangsabu: if the delay brought about questions regarding the construction of suites, does that mean this is a one-year absence, and it will return to Ford next year?

I get the idea that it's good exposure for the stadium and the school, but as an SMU soccer fan, that weekend is annoying when the HS games take up the parking we need for actual SMU games being played at the same time. I didn't make it to every game this year, but last year the football noise created a weird backdrop for the fútbol game.

Don't want to annoy the 100 people that actually attend the SMU soccer match

Fans going to an SMU event on SMU's campus should always get priority over those going to non-SMU events.

I'd hate for someone to have to park at Mockingbird Station and walk over... or God forbid, actually take the train!

Yes. Always.

Ideally, there would be a way to schedule the Landry games when there is no other SMU event going on, though.

Really? How many people have to be attending the SMU event? Should a poetry reading for 10 people get priority over a high school game bringing 10k or more because those 10 people will be inconvenienced?

My point is, it is not an absolute.
