THIS!! ^^

ESPN/ABC is Disney though. Maybe a better chance to buy CBS or NBC.
It would be cool if we had an alum like Phil Knight or the Underarmour guy who pour money into the program and make it cool/relevant. I'm not saying we have to have uniforms that look like Startroopers, but an IPF would be nice.

Agreed. It is not the schedule, it is the way we got to the schedule that I have the issue with.
Whats the big deal? We're still playing three BigXII/SEC opponents and we'll still open up Baylor's new stadium next year which will be pretty cool. Again, go back and look at TCU's OOC schedule back when they were building their program 5-10 years ago.
Like I said, if this was the schedule all along then I would be ok with it. That is pretty much what you said and I thought I was agreeing with you.

My issue was cancelling the game after it was already scheduled, especially doing that so late. To me, there is a big difference between scheduling MSU 3 years in advance when no one else was already scheduled and bailing out of a game against Baylor 7 months before the game to schedule MSU. Same end result, but different message.

I think you'd have to search pretty hard to find a situation where a team cancelled a BCS team and traditional rival at HOME that was almost guaranteed to sellout and attract a National TV audience especially when the cancelling team had gone to 4 straight bowls. Don't be surprised if HOME games against BCS schools are pretty much going to become extinct if they play in TV content controlled mega-conferences. Its a very real possibility that the TCU eventually drops us if the proposed Big 10 Model of scheduling 10 conference games takes hold. Most all BCS schools have been scheduling 7-8 home games for years. To even get to 7 Home games schools would have to play both out of conference games at home. We forfeited what very well could be one of our few remaining shots. But I know how much many of you enjoy running up the score on Lincoln Tech before 12,000.

Completely agree! If someone doesn't agree, then they should not complain about not being in a power conference.

Agreed we shouldn't have dropped them. Don't agree in the least that dropping them is tantamount to "forfeiting what very well could be one of our few remaining shots." Not playing Baylor in 2013 has doomed us to non BCS existence forever? Um, no.

I read his comment as meaning it could be one of our last remaining shots to play Baylor at home, given the changes in the way BCS teams are scheduling so many home games which he laid out. I did not think he was commenting on whether we would make it to the BCS level.

That would certainly make more sense. I kneejerked this one because I'm getting tired of the "we are doomed" crowd. My bad.

As a TCU fan, I hope this never happens and I don't think it will any time soon. Non-conference annual rivalry games used to be common place and are now a bit rare. Clemson / South Carolina, Georgie / Georgia Tech, Florida / Florida State, Iowa / Iowa State come to mind. Having road games @ SMU gives TCU's OOC schedule credibility - as compared to say Tech who has perhaps the worst OOC scheduling for the last decade or so. TCU should keep SMU on the schedule, but SMU needs to be flexible from year to year. If for example, ESPN wants to set up a major matchup including TCU, then SMU should allow TCU flexibility - it means we may not play every year.

Here's the problem-networks are getting tired of the trash non-conference games in their TV inventory especially in September. The thought is that they will be willing to pay more w/o the games between Alabama v Chattanoga. Since Alabama is the home team CBS and SEC Networks own the rights to televise that game in their inventory but the game is a poor TV draw.

In response to the diluted inventory, the Big 10 has proposed and presently is considering going to a 10 game conference schedule with only 2 non-conferences games. The Big 10 has already prohibited Big 10 teams from playing FCS schools. If both proposals pass, then just about every non-conference game in the Big 10 will be a home game because teams need at a minimum 7 home games to fund their stadium infrastructure payments and sports programs. Plus the Big 10 will need its teams to play home games to increase the Big10 Network inventory which they only have rights to if a Big 10 team is the home teams. If the we have the 4 16 or 18 team conferences they will need to play more conference games to have a cohesive conference and they won't have to worry about a punk-assed Hawaii beating the School of the Blind to take their BCS spot.

Big 10 has the challenge of sustaining the largest per team payout from TV revenue among all conferences. They are just doing what they have to do and while they don't have the best football product on the field, they know what they are doing financially

So with fewer Youngstown States or Western Michigans on their schedule, won't more mid level Big 10 teams struggle to win enough games to be bowl eligible? Or is that no longer a goal for these programs so long as they are reeling in the cash?
