SMU Marketing Ever Do Something Like This ??
I have been traveling last 2 months or so to Wichita, KS often for work. Last month I purchased on-line ticket to basektball game to see Wichita State play when I was in town. Within couple of weeks got thank you card from WSU athletic department, and end of last week got an invite from WSU to the Gregg Marshall Basketball Auction and Golf Tourney.
Last week when up there again attended a baseball game at WSU and today got a thank you card from baseball coaches for attending the event. Yes, it was just pre-printed post card but at least something was sent. As season ticket holder for almost 25 years don't remember getting anything this often from SMU right after attending an event.
Obviously there is one way for them to get your address when you purchase tickets on-line, and then they have simple system to mail out post card thank you notes. Has SMU ever done something like this, and if not why not ?? Is it a cost or man power issue ?? Maybe something we could start to start reaching out to people.

Did getting a card make you want to attend another game? Just curious. I don't know what impact that would really have

I dunno but last season I had to buy tickets through BU to go to the game in Waco and now Im getting annoyed from all the "Growler" emails that Baylor is sending me!

The athletic department might not be able to afford the extra postage given that there isn't much of a payday for the new TV contract.........

It just seems like an ineffective way to spend money

It's about building long term relationships with the residents of Dallas and their families that otherwise would have no connection to SMU football. If we are going to be 'Dallas' team' we are going to have to work to develop that relationship and adding a personal touch, as often as we can and in as many ways as we can, can only help.
Why not have a team of people going around to the Friday night local HS games passing out a small flyer or card or something re-introduding 'Dallas' College Football Team' to the local football communities/families? I am not a marketing person but it just seems that the opportunities are endless...

How much would it cost? Five grand? Peanuts. I like it.SMU2007 wrote:It just seems like an ineffective way to spend money

If it would help boost attendance I'm all for it. I just don't know if it would persuade more people to attend games- do you guys think it would?

I think it would be a very good PR move. As a frequent flier member of an airline based at Love Field I get a birthday card in the mail every year from them, what a great marketing tool. I believe something like a thank you card/email would help create a positive mind set that the school is greatful to those that decide to spend their money to watch SMU athletic events. This school needs all the positive public relations within the Dallas community it can get.
Pony in SA, if you have not done so already I would contact the AD and let him know about it, it sure cant hurt.

I'd rather send out fliers to those who haven't attended a game

Since I'm not in Dallas, isn't that what the billboard campaign was suppose to do? SMU is.... Or we're they used in a different way?PonySnob wrote:Isn't that pretty much all of the metroplex?SMU2007 wrote:I'd rather send out fliers to those who haven't attended a game
