PonyFans.com VIDEO: Q&A with AD Rick Hart — Parts 1, 2 & 3

Postby PonyPride » Tue Mar 12, 2013 10:49 pm

Just eight months into his tenure at SMU, athletic director Rick Hart sat down with PonyFans.com to discuss a wide array of topics — about himself and about the future of the athletic department. In Part I of a three-part series, Hart addresses several subjects, including the initial goals he and the SMU administration have for his tenure as AD, his initial impressions of the department, his administrative style and his thoughts on SMU's upcoming move to the Big East.

There is a link at the top of the page to the left of the link to "Board Index". Does that not work for tapatalk users?
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I love the part where Hart says he wants us to be a school that you either love or hate.
Thanks for doing this, PP. Glad to see what Hart has to say.

No, tapatalk doesn't load all the extra stuff. It's just convenient to direct us to the browser with some sort of link.

Great interview. Thanks for doing this.

I find it interesting that the Athletic Director "doesn't know" if any money has been pledged towards an IPF. This leads me to believe that no money has been set aside and that we will be funding that facility from scratch.

Hope there are more Dedman/Hunt/Ford/Sewell that want their name on the side of an IPF!

PonyFans.com's exclusive Q&A with athletic director Rick Hart concludes with Part 3, with Hart addressing a number of topics, including academic support for student-athletes, what it's like running an athletic staff with several coaches considered among the elite in their sports, and his expectations for the department and the teams that make up SMU athletics.

Many thanks to Rick Hart and the interviewer for taking time to do this. Hart had some really thought provoking things to say.

I can't remember the last time I was this excited about the future of SMU athletics.

I like the comment that SMU people are the most negative towards SMU. When I tell people I meet in this part of the country I went to SMU, their immediate reaction is "good school" and depending on their age, it's talk of Dickerson/James and the Pony Express or June Jones/Larry Brown. Someone I recently met described SMU as "the school that blows out whoever they play in Hawaii"

I liked a lot that Rick was saying, but I was kind of disappointed that nothing he said was quantifiable. Goals should be something attainable and something you can measure. The goals he talked about were all very vague and not what I wanted. Hopefully soon he can come out with some specific goals of the department with numbers, and how they are going to attain this goal.

That was the one remark that really jumped out at me as well. I think there is a lot of truth to that.

I know a lot of it is because we have been conditioned to expect the worst, but I hope Hart realizes a lot of it is because we are all so emotional about SMU athletics and really want the best.
