Big East Commish on CNBC
Will be on in a few minutes.
The tease by Becky Quick was, we'll talk to him about March Madness and being in charge of a dying conference.

New league will get to keep BCS bid? Is that true beyond 2013?

Re: Big East Commish on CNBC
While Aresco did a good job of painting the best picture he could. The interview did little to instill confidence. I have a feeling that this will end badly as I have since I defended voting for the MWC on a poll here on Ponyfans.
If I recall, those of us that voted for MWC were called simple minded at the time. My reasoning was that BE had too much uncertainty and that has worsened considerably since then. I'd love to be part of one of the biggies at one point and was ecstatic when we were invited to join the BE. The problem is that the BE no longer exists. It is an average conference that will at some point have a "new and dynamic name." I'm hoping for the best here but I've never been a fan of musical chairs.

Re: Big East Commish on CNBC
Big East is still the better option when compared to the MWC.
You really want to watch games that kick off at 10PM against Wyoming and San Jose State? Oh yeah, and we have to be Boise's [deleted] b/c of their sweetheart TV deal the MWC gave them.
If the Big East blows up and we don't land in a better spot the MWC will be there waiting with open arms. Until then, give me the America 12.

Aresco did a good job during the interview. Two take aways. First, ESPN exposure is key to the future and rebuilding the brand and, second, he indicated that more revenue is likely for BB network, which I presume is on top of the ESPN deal. Good to hear. If nBE/Metro/Great East is rebranding, SMU will need to pick up the pace on our own rebranding, while improving on the field and court.

the issues repeatedly seem to completely fly over the heads of those saying we need to run like hell to the MWC. I assume you all must live in the West because it makes absolutely no sense to keep harping on it right now. The MWC is availiable-
Now
Tommorrow and
Until there is movement in the ACC
SMU and UH are the MWC's only real options to improve their market
when the ACC settles there might be a decision to make-right now there is no decision to make. Right now the Big East is clearly the better place to be

Re: Big East Commish on CNBC
Its not even close when you factor in the fact that Boise State is getting the Longhorn Network treatment from the MWC. All things equal, we stand to make more money, get better exposure for both football and basketball, and we are still positioned well when more conference shifts occur.
The MWC is a last resort. The MWC knows this, hence they haven't invited Tulsa/UTEP/Rice. They are holding out for SMU/Houston. Either way, all the important parties know that until the ACC situation is resolved, SMU/Houston aren't leaving one sinking ship for another (MWC).

I'm not pounding the table for the MWC by any means. I just think the BE or whatever it will be called is, at best, on shaky ground. You guys are better informed than me on the safety net status of the MWC so I'll certainly defer on that.

Re: Big East Commish on CNBC
Safety Net is a good description for the MWC vis-a-vis SMU and Houston.
As we move into our new conference (TBN), we are not facing a desparate situation similiar to where we were only two years ago in the CUSA with little confidence we could participate in something better. Arguably, our new conference is less than imagined, but our previous status was very uncomfortable with limited options to improve.
Now, we have both influence and long-term possibilities, whether inside our new conference or as a candidate for an expanding or backfilling power conference.
Candidly, our future is now in our hands and will determined by how we perform on the field and court, while drawing fans and media attention to our new brand and level of success.

Key is for UH and us stayed united. Problem would arise if Coogs headed west without us.
