Re: Updates
Navy is already joining. Air Force commandant has been adamant in his opposition to leaving the MWC.

Re: Updates
Actually, the reference is to Army and Air Force, since Navy is already committed. However, Air Force would struggle finding a conference for its other sports, while Navy has the Patriot League.MV pony wrote:According to A Jersey Guy :
1. New name won't have numbers and may be out in 2 weeks.
2. Aresco content to stay at 12 teams unless Navy and Air Force can be enticed to join.
Army makes sense only if AF is in.

If true, it sure pays to have an ESPN tv contract... It all of a sudden gets us back an AQ bid lolponyboy wrote:" According to sources at the Big East and the NCAA, the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament given to the Big East each year will be retained by the football group of schools who expect to have a new name within the next two weeks."

It's talking about the basketball automatic bid.SMU_Alumni11 wrote:If true, it sure pays to have an ESPN tv contract... Re: Updates
I thought that was the case. How could the nBE possibly not get an auto bid? Cusa obviously had one.

Re: Updates
Every D-1 conference gets an autobid, but there's a probationary period for new conferences. Since the to-be-renamed conference is technically not a new conference, it makes complete sense that we get the autobid. The new Big East (the C7 conference) is a new conference and would traditionally have to go through a probationary period (a couple of years without an autobid), but they are expected to receive a waiver of the probationary period.SMU2007 wrote:I thought that was the case. The last major conference split was the MWC splitting off from the WAC, and the MWC did not have an autobid in the 1999-2000 season, their first season as a conference.
Re: Updates
A Jersey Guy reporting-
New name to be announced before the Final Four semi finals on Sat.
Variations such as ""The American Athletic Conference or the American Metro Conference are the front-runners, with the American Metro receiving the most support since it fits the profiles of almost all of the schools in the conference.
Although there are no major plans to expand beyond 12 teams in football, Big East officials have let it be known that invitations in football to Army and Air Force would not be difficult to obtain.
Let's see if this pans out.

Re: Updates
American athletic conference doesn't sound bad.
Also would be in favor of adding the service academies

American Athletic Conference or AAC sounds too much like ACC in my opinion. Still better than America 12 though

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
