You can be the nicest guy in the world, but if you punch someone, it's still assault.

Rice could be the nicest coach in the world, but he still had all of those moments.

Playing bball at the collegiate level is not an employer-employee relationship.

They are the ones who are there every single day and know what his usual behavior and attitude towards them is like. They have more insight than a highlight reel of outbursts. It doesn't sound like the same thing that happened at Tech where it was clear everyone hated the guy bc he was malicious. But maybe other teammates don't feel like these 2 do.

Too late. The media vultures already tried him in the court of public opinion. Onto the next outrage! Who should we get fired next?

If players speak out then they stand a chance of being blackballed or losing a scholarship. Murdock lost his job because he brought this is to the AD's attention. Kids are pretty much at the mercy of the coaches when this stuff goes on. Glad Murdock spoke up about it. There recruiting would have suffer greatly if they had not gotten rid of the coach and AD in my opinion. Several faculty members at Rutger (not media) are called for the president of the school to resign. Probably due to lack of institutional control.

I don't understand the confusion here. No one on this board is ever allowed to assault anyone. That is the law.

Similarly, a basketball coach is not allowed to assault his players. It's not any different for anyone.

It is not always so ironclad. Assault means many things.

If we had a boxing team could a coach hit a student? In football can you shove players or whack them with pads?

MArk me down as not being outraged. He's a [deleted], and by all means fire him for stinking, but lots of coaches are abusive. Goes w/the job description to a degree. All they preach is toughness, and when they dont get it, they flip. Color me not shocked

It is mildly amusing that his use of homosexual slang is considered offensive but his constant use of a slang for fornication isn't a issue. 30 years ago the public outrage would be over use of such a crude word while most understand that young men don't aspire to have sex with other men.

So 30 years later, its insulting to call young men homosexuals while a word previously band from broadcast word is OK. The world is certainly full of change.

One is a curse word and one is a derogatory word specifically targeted at a group of people.

I'm sure people of your parents generation thought it was mildly amusing when people started getting upset about using the N word.
