Re: Possible Big 12/ACC Alliance
This is not as much about who has the stronger programs as who might bring more subscriptions/TV sets. Why do you think the Big 10 was more interested in Rutgers and Maryland than Cincy and FSU? That move was about the NY/NJ and Balt/Wash metro areas. Big 10 is looking at Atlanta with GA Tech and Charlotte/Raleigh-Durham with the Tarheels. Virginia is a fallback but this is all TV driven and for the Big 10, they are looking at AAU schools. I'm surprised they haven't moved on Kansas, but my understanding is the Kansas legislature has made it clear that Kansas/KSU do nothing unless it's together or both schools are "protected" financially

If this was true, they would have chosen SMU and RIce. Also, contiguous states.
they are looking at AAU schools. Right, this is a fall-back.
that is partially true. If it were, then go for KU and ISU.

Because they are nearer, and not commuter schools?

Re: Possible Big 12/ACC Alliance
With realignment quiet for the moment, this blog suggests that the BigXII is at greater risk than ACC, if PAC12 goes east. He raises an interesting point that the new American Athletic Conference (AAC) may become a home for the remnants of such break-up, e.g. Iowa State or even a West Virginia. Perhaps this is why Mike Aresco wants to brand the new AAC as the 'challenger' conference with an attitude. At this time, no one would give this idea any credibility, but if many of the BigXII members are divided between multiple conferences, such as PAC12, SEC and Big 10, our new AAC could be a refuge.

The author is an idiot. If the AAC stays as it is and West Virginia and Iowa State join, Baylor and TCU would have to choose the AAC over the MWC in a heartbeat.

Re: Possible Big 12/ACC Alliance
why would the ACC want iowa state or baylor? They would be way better off choosing both SMU and TCU and really working this market. TCU would be more attractive then either of those teams, and probably more then WVA - and i hate TCU - it is just the facts. Its not butts in seats as much as TV sets, and market share and coporate dough....
