Moody timescale

Postby Mustangsabu » Fri Apr 12, 2013 12:49 pm

I am most alarmed to hear that Moody renovations are so far over budget. My bigger concern is whether it will be finished on time. I am hugely bothered by being asked to triple the cost of my BBall season tix when not only do we not have the schedule we thought we would have with the departure of the Catholics, but it is possible that we will play most of our games in Garland. I notice that after a video posted in February showing the progress there has been very little out of SMU about the work on Moody, though some photos were recently produced. I just hope that Hart is up front about the timescale here.

I am not sure how you can be most alarmed about something and have a bigger concern.

I'd be SHOCKED if we are not ready to go for our first conference home game.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I believe the term is "time line" or "timetable".

"most alarmed" is a phrase meaning very alarmed but not actually as the most extreme state of alarm. It is perfectly acceptable to find something most-alarming and yet have a bigger concern.

"timescale" is correct.

I did, however, not capitalize the "C" in "Catholic" which was an error. It has been corrected.

Doesnt "most alarmed" imply the most - as in there is nothing that i am more alarmed about? I think it was the wrong choice. And nobody uses "timescale". Timeline would have been a better choice.

And no we wont be late. And you will be paying more since the product is much better and the competition will be WAAAAY better. We want all fans, but if you dont get both of those two things than you can certainly pass on renewing. From what I hear we will be somehere between 2X or 3X our season tickets holders, and we doubled last year from the year prior.

"Most alarmed" translates as "very alarmed". It may be a more nuanced use of English than that to which you are accustomed, and indeed is a more archaic usage, but still correct. "Timescale" is also appropriate. You may be offended by my use of words that differ from yours, but I would have hoped you would seek out the gist of my point rather than reveal to all the boundaries of your own verbosity.

And while I agree that the quality of the basketball we put on the court next year should be a significant step up from what we have seen in recent years, I think that the fact that we will face so many of the same teams as we did in CUSA will translate into apathy from the Dallas community. Had we been able to advertise Georgetown, Villanova etc. We would have had a more valuable product in the eyes of the general public.

Abu is right. If you read it in a slight English accent, it makes complete sense. Think Peter O'Toole in Zulu.

That is one of my favorite movies and a higher compliment could not have been paid.

Generally, and ignorant of construction, I can't get too upset when costs & time table start sliding on old, old buildings. Can just imagine all the unexpected sh*t they find in a massive building built in phases when Ike was President.

most (adj.)
Old English mast "greatest number, amount, extent," earlier mæst, from Proto-Germanic *maistaz (cf. Old Saxon mest, Old Frisian mast, Old Norse mestr, Dutch meest, German meist, Gothic maists "most"), superlative form of Proto-Germanic *maiz, root of Old English ma, mara (see more). Used in Old English as superlative of micel "great, large" (see mickle). Vowel influenced by more. Original sense of "greatest" survives in phrase for the most part (c.1400). Slang meaning "the best, extremely good" is attested from 1953. Also used as an adverb in Old English. Phrase make the most of (something) is by 1520s. Related: Mostly. Double superlative mostest is 1885, from U.S. Southern and Black English.

When you renovate, you better plan for cost overruns. While the budget is for what you plan to do, no renovation goes without a hitch and significant change orders.

1) I am not worried about the cost overruns because I see no evidence that SMU is broke.

2) One hopes that they included a cushion in the building timeline.

If it isn't ready in time for conference play, rent the AAC for AAC play.

Doubt we could rent American Airlines for games. I really don't see them making room for SMU's schedule around the Mavs, Stars, concerts, etc. on the off chance we MIGHT need it in January.
