SMU v Kentucky in 1956

Postby Stallion » Fri Apr 19, 2013 4:14 pm

I found a link for a new website called the Digital Public Library of America. Just for kicks I searched for SMU and found this audio gem of SMU BB history from Kentucky network. Thought it was Final 4 but it was actually played in December 1956

Here is a Boxscore:

"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

We lost to San Francisco in 1956 Final Four. San Francisco had Bill Russell and KC Jones on that team.

They had a third-place game back then and we lost that to Temple.

We got killed on the boards! Also, noticed we led by 5 at the half.

Wow. When was the last college game when there were 178 total shots.

amazing audio quality. pretty cool. besides the pace of the game, they were chucking 30 foot shots with regularity and the announcer thought nothing of it really.

Due to stronger defense allowed near the net or lack of athletes capable of attacking?
