Report: Snyder says football is 'in a bad place'
I respect Bill Snyder and what he has done for KSU and the players he has coached. I expect his views to be dismissed, but TV and the media are distracting the from the mission of education and student development.
Part of my affection for non-revenue sports is the greater likelihood that the university mission will be realized.

Hey Snyder, that $14.75 million over 5 years isn't possible without TV. Call me cynical but whining about too much money in sports because of TV while raking in more than 3 million a year to produce a TV worthy team sounds a bit hypocritical to me.
This too is interesting and more the reason players do what they do. Specifically the 'Fan Photos: College Football Tailgate' gallery.

Bill Synder's comments are not diminished because KSU chooses to overpay him. The trend is the problem and, since he retired once before, Synder might be the first to give back and/or restrict the worse offenses. Beside his coaching staff will not want to give back and unilaterally disarm vs. their peers.

Yes, which is why his contract is full of performance incentives totaling an additional $500,000 on top of his salary...he didn't want them but they forced him to have itWater Pony wrote:because KSU chooses to overpay him

I don't see why his opinion is dismissed simply because he makes $3m a year. There's coaches making a whole hell of a lot more than he is, that's for sure.

I agree. Who is going to take less money just based on principle? No one.
Only way to know where he stands for sure would be if he actively voted for something that would directly lower his salary. Either way though, he makes good points.

I take less money based on principle in my job. Many do. Not saying that's necessarily what Snyder should do.

Snyder's critics here are correct but so is Snyder.

"We've allowed it to be TV-driven, and allowed it to become more important to a university than it should be," Snyder said. "We're educational institutions, and what's really important is trying to enhance the lives of young people and give them guidance and direction to help themselves."
The question that should have been asked of Synder is WHY has it become TV-driven? The answer of course is money.
So let me get this straight, Synder would be an idiot for turning down his big salary, yet he is in effect suggesting universities should in an effort to better balance their priorities? Good luck with that.

The point remains. Being in the system does not disqualify him from his opinions.SoCal_Pony wrote:"We've allowed it to be TV-driven, and allowed it to become more important to a university than it should be," Snyder said.
