Re: ACC GORUNLV will NEVER be invited to join the PAC 12. They are an academic joke. Same goes for Boise State.
The only possible additions to the PAC would be Colorado State, New Mexico, SMU, and Houston. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: ACC GORNo, I'm sorry but UNLV does have an outside shot and they would get the nod before SMU and Houston. Hell, even Nevada would get a look before SMU and Houston but they do not produce the $$$ UNLV does. IF the Pac 12 really wants to get into Texas they are going wait out the Big 12 GOR and the LHN deal.
Colorado State won't be taken b/c the Pac 12 already has that state locked up with CU. Their only shot at moving up is if the Big 12 suddenly wanted a conference network and the TV people told them they needed to get the state of Colorado back. New Mexico is unlikely but does meet certain requirements that would be attractive but ultimately being in a state with 3/4 of a million people less than Nevada hurts them. I agree that Boise is unlikely but they have shown great determination to improve their school and have the benefit of being in a state the Pac 12 doesnt own. Its a small state though so that puts them near the back of the line.
Re: ACC GORDallas and Houston media markets >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Reno and Las Vegas
SMU and Houston academic repuation >>>>>>>>>>>>>> UNLV and Nevada SMU and Houston athletic success >>>>>>>>>>>>>> UNLV and Nevada Not sure I agree with you. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: ACC GORI can't imagine CSU ever getting from underneath CU's shadow, at least in the same conference. The Rams are the Aggies and the Buffs are the Longhorns.
Re: ACC GORall of that is mostly correct however SMU and Houston won't carry Texas the way UNLV would carry Nevada when it comes to carriage for the Pac 12 Network.
Again, the UNLV athletic department does very well money wise and made $54m in 11-12. UConn at $64m is the only school outside of the power conferences that made more than them. To compare, SMU made $42m and Houston made $32m. I will back off on Nevada potentially being ahead of SMU and Houston though as forgot how little they make. (just $19m) I'll reiterate that if the Pac 12 is going to come to Texas, they are going to wait out the LHN deal and the Big 12 GOR.
Re: ACC GORand BTW, I personally want SMU in the SEC. I have always had a soft spot for y'all and think you could be a Texas version of Ole Miss.
Sadly everything is decided by TV execs and bean counters now.
Re: ACC GORI think I read somewhere that the SEC has an agreement that it will not invite any school in the same state as an existing member. With Texas A&M in the SEC that leaves all other Texas schools out.
Re: ACC GOR
If they want to expand they are probably have to change that. They already have 2 in Tennessee, 2 in Alabama, and 2 in Mississippi. I could certainly see them adding one in Florida or South Carolina, or Texas. But I do not see them wanting us for any reason. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: ACC GOR
They won't and they don't have to b/c they don't need to expand. The SEC has not been very aggressive like the Big Ten during expansion. They wait for schools to contact them as opposed to seeking out disgruntled schools. They are perfectly happy to wait for schools in states they want to add for the SECN. It's the whole reason they took Missouri. They wanted all those homes to force a cable network into. I am not saying that I think schools like East Carolina and Cincinnati will get into the SEC, I'm just saying those are the types that fit certain parameters that must be first met for entry. Unless ESPN demanded that ECU and Cincy were taken, I believe the SEC will be perfectly happy to wait out the GOR deals the Big 12 and ACC signed. Also, I doubt ESPN will want the SEC to suck up ECU and Cincy right now anyway. That would further damage the AAC which they pretty much own lock stock and barrel. I also believe they are likely to give the ACC its own conference network to stave off defections of valuable properties to conferences that have partnerships with Fox Sports in the Big Ten (w/its network) and the Big 12 (big time tier 2 deal). They also don't want ACC schools going to the SEC b/c that would likely mean that conference was about to disintegrate as every scenario for that to happen would include the ACC losing UNC and UVA who hold the thing together. As it is now, they almost completely own the ACC, SEC (aside from CBS game of the week) and the AAC. They aren't going to want to kill either of those just to add two teams to the SEC.
Re: ACC GORI was always of the opinion that SMU would wind up in the best of the AAC and the leftover ACC schools.
Now with the ACC GOR that will not happen. Actually, I'm kinda disappointed as I thought that type of league would be perfect for SMU as it would be competitive but not too competitive that we had no chance of being successful. I have to agree that the PAC 12 will wait for the Big 10 GOR to expire and make a run at UT,TT,OU,OSU. The LHN has not been successful and I have to believe ESPN and UT can come to an agreement such that it won't stand in the way of UT going to the PAC12. So, silly as it sounds, the BIG is now the only major conference that would find SMU attractive. Admittedly a long shot but the BIG wants to move south for recruiting and growing TV markets. The BIG recognizes that they can't compete recruiting Midwestern kids. Getting weekly exposure to Texas would be the kind of game changer that the BIG is known for. If they will take Rutgers why wouldn't they take SMU AND Houston to get access to 22 million people and the best high school football and very, very good basketball talent Pony 81
Re: ACC GORDon't get your logic...if the PAC 12 take UT, TT, OU, OSU, then why wouldn't we be attractive to the Big 12? Along with several other AAC teams, Houston, UCF, USF, Memphis, Cincinnati, Tulsa and maybe Boise, SDSU, BYU.
Re: ACC GOR
like miss msu/ bama aub I think Texas A&M prob has a no UT agreement. They have Houston, but the SEC schools would love to play in dallas more often than Cotton bowl
Re: ACC GOR
We would but that's not the big12 anymore
Re: ACC GOR
yes, but don't forget the SEC if Missouri is snatched to the big10. IT's where they wanted to go originally and right now they have no allegiances to the SEC or rivalries. 14 is an odd conference number, so BiG needs 2, and so does SEC (maybe 3). I think Pac12 waits out the B12 GOR and takes the 4-pack, and the BiG may wait out the B12 GOR and take KU/MIzzou The race for the final stable conference was between the ACC and the B12, and the B12 is on borrowed time...
Re: ACC GORI will never understand why any of you actually believe we will ever be in the SEC. It's not going to happen. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid and get over it. We offer them nothing. There's more aggies in dallas than ponies. They already have the tv market. TCU would go before us and they will never go to the SEC either.
The reminents of the AAC/ACC (god this acronym similarity between the two is already getting annoying) was our best shot if the B1G got antsy again. It's gonna happen for awhile. We're in the AAC (still an awful name) and have to accept that for the time being. Yeah it sucks, but until we go all boise state on people. no one really wants a perenial 6-6 team that averages about 20K for home games that has a small alumni base even though we're in the 9th largest city in the country. You can argue, "but Maryland sucks and they went to the B1G", but they actually have a following, were already in a major conference, and people don't get the confused with St. Marys. It's like saying San Diego State will go to the Pac-12. hahahahahahahaha. Doesn't matter how good they are, USC and UCLA already have the market. it'll never happen. And sadly in todays $ and TV driven world, thats all that counts BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
