The rumor is that Mike Slive and Jim Delaney have had an informal sit-down and agreed that 'We won't go after your schools if you don't go after ours.' That would explain why Rutgers and Maryland went to the Big 10 and not Miissouri, the more natural fit.
This deal means that additional major realignment won't happen for at least another 5 years. That's a good thing for us - we have the opportunity to build and become better. Here's hoping we make the most of it. If we start to win AAC championships, something that I believe can happen with time, then this can absolutely work to our advantage.

http://m.outkickthecoverage.com/texas-a ... -state.phpOne article discussing the SEC pact. CBS reports the same. The PAC 12 seems to like AAU schools. With the exception of Utah, the non-AAU schools in the PAC 12 are paired with a state school that is an AAU school (e.g., Washington (AAU) and Washington State (non-AAU).

In the short to mid-term, I believe stability helps everyone, including SMU. If we become the class of the new AAC, don't play victim by beating quality OOC opponents (while building our fan base) and leverage our BB emerging program, we will be attractive to several conferences in the long term. To paraphrase an old ad, we make our "future" the old way, by earning it.

Maybe we are the beneficiary of good timing for the first time since around 1968. Lets hope our administration makes the most of it. My confidence level isn't very high, though Mexmustangs reports are encouraging regarding positive change.

OL MISS, MSU, LSU, ARK, et al would love to PLAY in DALLAS. The SEC teams would like to EXPAND THEIR BRAND and attract students and reach out to alumni ever so often...
The reminents of the AAC/ACC (god this acronym similarity between the two is already getting annoying) was our best shot if the B1G got antsy again. It's gonna happen for awhile.
We're in the AAC (still an awful name) and have to accept that for the time being. Yeah it sucks, but until we go all boise state on people. no one really wants a perenial 6-6 team that averages about 20K for home games that has a small alumni base even though we're in the 9th largest city in the country.
You can argue, "but Maryland sucks and they went to the B1G", but they actually have a following, were already in a major conference, and people don't get the confused with St. Marys.
UM. Miami? Oh wait, Maryland... they have those weird helmets...
It's like saying San Diego State will go to the Pac-12. hahahahahahahaha. Doesn't matter how good they are, USC and UCLA already have the market. it'll never happen. And sadly in todays $ and TV driven world, thats all that counts
NOT NECESSARILY TRUE. IF THEY NEED 16 TO BE A CONFERENCE< THEY WILL ADD 4. DOESN'T MATTER WHERE

That's not much of a standard...."We make exceptions to AAU if you have an AAU state school to come along the trip..." Iowa State is AAU, Nebraska is not. Which one is in the Big10?

Austex: My logic involved timing. Assuming the BIG doesn't want to wait around for the B12 GOR to expire and want to move south where there are growing populations and superior recruiting prospects AND they can't poach an ACC school then...... The only growing southern state with a huge talent pool left is Texas and the two best schools available are SMU and UH.
I think SMU going to the BIG is unlikely because we dilute their revenue but it is really the only scenario left with the ACC off the table.
Most likely scenario is we stay in the AAC and hopefully thrive.

in a funny way I think SEC is a winner here-did they really want ACC chopped up and face significant recruiting presence of the Big 12 and Big 10 in their own backyard just to add North Carolina St. and Virginia Tech.

No school will leave the SEC, its a bank that prints money. If they expand, they'll wait out the ACC and will look at UNC or NCSU and VT to enlarge their market into NC and VA. Perhaps they'd look at KU to make Mizzou happy. The Big Ten will look at GT, UNC, UVA as possible additions when the ACC TV deal ends. Unless of course FSU/Clemson/GT pull a coup and land for example UT and OU when the Big XII contract expires which might be a good defensive move long term. That would mean that the Big XII would self-destruct in about 10 seconds.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Actually, I believe Nebraska was AAU when they were admitted to the B10, then later kicked out http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/i ... aau-status

Do you know this is talking about the Atlantic Coast Conference and not the American Athletic?

Good thing is we can either build up the conference or be able to get an invite to the P5 conference. It should be agreed on that there will be no GOR in the American til we actually get a decent tv contract 10+ mil... Which likelihood of that is slim to none in the future.
