Rogers, Voosen Named To 2013 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society

May 2, 2013

IRVING, Texas (NFF/SMU) - SMU's Cameron Rogers and Mark Voosen were named to the 2013 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, the NFF & College Hall of Fame announced today. The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.

Rogers, who earned his undergraduate degree in sports management prior to his senior season, played in eight games as a linebacker for the Mustangs in 2012, starting six before suffering a season-ending injury. He had 18 tackles, including one for loss, and added an interception return for a touchdown, returning the ball 96 yards against SFA. He was part of an SMU senior class that played in a school-record four consecutive bowl games. He is pursuing his graduate degree in liberal studies.

Voosen, who is completing his bachelor's degree in applied physiology and sports management, played in a school-record-tying 53 games. The four-year deep snapper was part of an SMU senior class that played in a school-record four consecutive bowl games as he finished his career without a bad snap.

"The growing number of schools involved in the Hampshire Honor Society each year shows that football student-athletes not only play at the highest level but that they are some of the best students on campus as well," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "Congratulations to each of these young men for their commitment to education and their leadership on and off the football field."

A total of 703 players from 259 schools qualified for membership in the society's seventh year, marking the highest school participation in the history of the program, which began in 2007.

Congrats to Mark and Cameron … job well done. I read a few weeks ago (can’t remember where) Rogers was also a recipient of the Commissioners Academic Medal for having a GPA in access of 3.75. There are a lot of great post SMU Football (Athletics) success stories out there … and some participate on this fan site …. Proud of all of you.

Definition of a thankless job: Voosen tied the record for the most games played by anyone in SMU history, and with the exception of his friends, not one of us could pick him out of a lineup. His clearly is one of those positions that doesn't get him any attention unless he screws up, and his anonymity is an indicator that he did a hell of a job. Zach Wood, or whoever takes his place, has some big shoes to fill.

Congratulations to Mark and Cameron. Thanks for your stellar play at SMU and good luck in whatever you do.
