Interesting that the blogger in that first link blames Gilbert. I remember the receivers dropping a lot of very catchable passes.

DJ made a ton of catches, though. Hope he sticks in Atlanta.

While the Falcs have arguably the top duo of WRs in the NFL (Rowdy Roddy White and Julio), we are VERY thin at WR. Besides those guys, we have Harry Douglas and Tony G playing in the slot. I would love for us to pick another speedster to line up in the slot, so that we can go 5 wide. Hoping DJ plays out of his mind and makes the team.

It is always interesting to read people that don't actually follow SMU. It is too simplistic to blame DJ's UDFA status on Gilbert (KP and JJ). Yes, Gilbert is inaccurate. Yes, he likes to throw the fastball from 4yds away. But that is only a part of DJ's college career. DJ will make the most spectacular catch then drop the easy one that hits him in the hands, in stride with no one around. This has been his story for the majority of his college career. I don't know if it is a focus issue or something else. He has got a world of talent, but goes through inconsistent spells.

yeah but he also stepped up and made big plays in just about every quality victory and big games we've had in the last few years unlike some shrinking violets at WR. People forget he missed about 2 1/2 games in 2012-he probably would have been the difference at Tulane and probably would have put up big numbers at SFA. He could have ended with about 80 catches and 1,000 yards even with a wildly erratic QB. Same thing in 2011 with McDermott. Part of the problem last year is that he was the only receiving threat and teams zeroed in on him.

Not disagreeing with you at all. He has done wonderful things for SMU and SMU Football. When he is on, he will make spectacular catches and can change games. All I'm pointing out is that from time to time he gets a case of the drops. During the draft process, teams are looking at what is wrong with players just as much or more than what the player does well.

DJ can make a lot of catches, but "speedster"? No. He's quick and shifty, but as a sprinter ... meh.

The way they use Gonzales, he's essentially a 3rd receiver. How many teams have 3 pro-bowl caliber receivers in their offense?

I also appreciate DJ's contribution to the Mustangs and I really like him as a person. I also realize he was taking care of a kid while trying to get grades and get into the gym and everything else.

But I'm glad for his sake that they don't keep a stat on drive-killing 3rd down drops. Many of those drops were, in June's offense, the equivalent of a QB keeper or a fullback falling forward for 2 yards on 3rd-and-short. The ability to sustain drives are game-changers.

His one handed spin catch over the middle was a thing of beauty against TCU. From what I could tell McDermott was much better at finding DJ on the middle routes.

The Broncos with Thomas, Decker and Welker are scary. I'm a chargers so I am well aware f how awful its gonna be for us. You could also arge for the packers with james jones, jordy nelsom, jermicheal finley and randall cobb (the do it all guy who saved my fantasy team last year)

But yes, the falcons are staced at the top
