The American ratifies plan to split realignment funds
Three former Big East schools will receive 60 percent of funds
May 21, 2013|By Paul Tenorio, Orlando Sentinel
PONTE VEDRA BEACH - American Athletic Conference presidents agreed on how to split lucrative Big East exit fees and postseason credits that reportedly could be near $100 million.
League officials declined to reveal how much each school would receive, but UCF athletics director Todd Stansbury said in an exclusive interview with the Orlando Sentinel the schools previously in the Big East would receive about 60 percent of the revenue while the newcomers would split about 40 percent.

Was hoping for a 50/50 split, but this is about as good as we could've expected.

Take what you can get & run with it. It sounds reasonable.

Its a fair breakdown. The existing schools are taking it in the shorts by having to align themselves with schools they perceive (rightly or wrongly) to be down the ladder from their previous associations. It is now up to the league to prove itself on the field. The exposure we are getting from ESPN is great, but we need to show up in these games.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I assume this is the split from past funds and future funds will be divided evenly.

Yes, we are assuming that this distribution plan covers the significant Exit Fees paid by Catholic Seven (New Big East), Louisville and Rutgers. Future revenue will be earned equally as new members join. The PonyGrad wrote:I assume this is the split from past funds and future funds will be divided evenly.

Given that the three left-behinds were originally trying for a 90/10 split, 60/40 is a big victory for us.

Why would we return money that your school leaders agreed to pay if you did not go through with joining the Big East?West Coast Johnny wrote:Now that the dust has settled, y'all are going to return TCU's $5 million arn't ya?

60/40 is a major victory. Way beyond expectations. Huge win.

Still hard to believe that at one time, this move was looking to bring $15+ million a year and now even with all the defections and their penalties it's not even $3 million......
