Apparently it's due to academics.

There's an NCAA rule that says that a player who transfers to another school but doesn't play or exhaust any eligibility there may transfer back to the first school without losing any eligibility.

But Kiel won't do that. Apparently, he was going to be 4th string or lower with Golson there.

So the evidence of the specialness of Notre Dame is a certifiable loony toon, over-rated line backer who thought he had a girlfriend on line, except it was a boy.....and this guy - the team leader who cheats on exams.

Hail hail to ol Notre dame.....

Whatever. Notre Dame found out their star QB cheated and publicly announced it. They didn't hide it, they aired their dirty laundry for all to see.

Good for them. Good luck to the kid for earning his way back.

Don't normal students get kicked out of school for such infractions...I'll pat ND on the back when they kick him out of school.

What does no longer enrolled at the school mean to you?

sounds like it is only a temporary thing:
''At this point, I understand how my integrity could be in question but I want to reassure my supporters that through this experience I will return a better student athlete as well as a better individual,'' Golson said. ''Lastly, I want to thank the University of Notre Dame for the opportunity already granted and also the opportunity going forth to regain my eligibility in the winter of 2014.''

I'm for both normal students and QB's getting a second chance. Maybe it has something to do with that whole 'Christian' thing.

Yes, let's do away with honor codes and instead hand every student a "my bad" token.

Jesus taught us "don't hold grudges", not "don't follow through with consequences".

Right.

Because being publicly chastised, losing the starting position at possibly the most glamorous football program in the country and being taken out of school is 'token.'

I'm sorry, I don't have a problem with it. Good for them.

Um...SMU doesn't kick people out of school altogether for cheating:

http://smu.edu/studentlife/studenthandb ... _05_HC.asp
SECTION 1: The recommended minimum penalty for a violation of the Honor Code shall be an Honor Violation (H.V.) and a deferred suspension from the University for the remainder of the student’s academic career.
"deferred suspension" means that there's not an actual suspension for the first violation but rather a suspension that kicks in if there is another disciplinary issue

And for athletes...
SECTION 4: For a period of one year, no student with an H.V. on the transcript will be permitted to represent the University in any extracurricular activity, or run for or hold office in any recognized student organization, including, but not limited to, participating as a member of an athletic team, in performances conducted under University auspices, serving as a member of the Mustang Band, the debate teams, an officer of a sorority or fraternity, a member of the Student Senate, a member of the Student Foundation, or in similar capacities. If students so sanctioned fail to remove themselves from such activities voluntarily, the Honor Council will contact the relevant student or administrative officials to force such action. In exceptional situations, this penalty may be waived at the discretion of the hearing board.
