The way the Rice game was played was all around poor from what I watched on the online stream for the game. I saw wide open receivers dropping balls that if caught could have won that game. That's why I say we should have beat them.

Turner was Tulane's "lead" sponsor. None of the Catholic schools were even involved. Nor did they even vote. Turner and Tulane's President served for years on the Knight Commission--they are "best pals". Tulane had no business being invited into the Faux East, especially ahead of Tulsa. And, they had absolutely no business being invited to watch an SMU football game before we played them that year, so they could all scout our team, when they were invited to practice here by Turner.

Some people suggested that since SMU wasn't an official member of the conference it couldn't possibly be true. Turner didn't have the power. Yet Turner was already voted head of the president's committee overseeing the television contract negotiations and had the first Conference President's meeting here in Dallas. Now of couse he has been selected conference president. I believe all of that has happened before we even become "official members" which happens in a few weeks (I don't recall the date).

I hope that clarifies my comments.

I do not deny that it is possible SMU had a say in the process, but your comments that SMU was the only school that wanted them is ridiculous. Are you saying that SMU had the power to over rule all of the other schools combined?

You have also ignored the article in the Florida paper that quoted texts from the UCF president to aresco where the UCF president said the Tulane president was a friend. Not sure how you square that with the claim that only turner had a personal relationship with the Tulane president.

My point is, when you make outlandish ridiculous claims it undermines any other constructive things you have to say about this or other subjects.

No incoming member had a vote so SMU, UCF, Houston, Memphis, Boise State, San Diego State, Navy, and East Carolina had nothing to do with the addition of Tulane. Georgetown, St John's, Villanova, Providence, Seton Hall, Marquette, and Depaul did. Why they did is beyond me because they subsequently bolted for that very reason.
