Freshmen

We drove up for the game, and we didn't like the score or the fact that ShanDerrick didn't have a big day. Next time.

But how about our other young man from Port Arthur? Daniel Francis looked good! Very natural. Some people didn't beleive me when I talked him up on signing day. He isn't big, and he's real skinny. But the kid is fast. Real fast. And he normally catches everything - I can't believe he dropped one (looked like he heard a linebacker coming.) I'm telling you, you'll love watching Daniel play. If Cunningham is the Comet, maybe he can be the Meteor or something. Wait until he gets the ball in the open field, just watch him run.

I was looking at the other freshmen when the team was warming up. Here's what I got for you:

Mike Benson is going to be a man. I'll tell you right now that kid will be all conference by the time he's a junior. I don't think he played in the game, but I watched him warm up. He gets low to get his pads under the guy, and he looks like he has good footwork. No wonder the coaches like him. And better yet, he looks skinny, if you can call a 265-pound kid skinny. The Diesel can put 40-50 pounds on that kid, easy.

Darrin Johnson is huge. Whatever position he ends up at, he'll be a force.

Grant Edson looks strong, and his snaps were on the money in warm-ups. He played in the game.

Jamar Bey and Cole Horton should live with Mike Benson. Those kids are tall and skinny. The three of them should get a place together and let Diesel make out their shopping list. If they get bigger, can you picture a QB trying to throw over a 6-6 DE (Johnson) and two 6-5 LBs? That's tough to do.

The new punter isn't bad. He looked scared a little, but he'll be allright.
