Re: Will SMU Eventually Require 4 Year On-Campus Housing?
Yes it will. Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Will SMU Eventually Require 4 Year On-Campus Housing?i dont think there is necessarily a correlation between living on campus and having no parties. Vanderbilt has tons of on campus parties.
Re: Will SMU Eventually Require 4 Year On-Campus Housing?Smu already has minimal on campus parties (unless this has changed in recent years).
The vast majority are off campus.
Re: Will SMU Eventually Require 4 Year On-Campus Housing?
That is because SMU is on a mission to kill off partying by students. While other schools try to keep things under control, SMU treats a six pack of beer as if it were a nuclear bomb. I have heard that the are now trying to make fraternities register off campus parties. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Will SMU Eventually Require 4 Year On-Campus Housing?right....because the boulevard is such a quiet church-like affair. if the fraternities are not idiots they have nothing to fear. if they are idiots they are probably at the wrong school.
SMU has a long history of work hard/play hard. I dont see that changing.
Re: Will SMU Eventually Require 4 Year On-Campus Housing?
This is not the case anymore at all. Lori white and turner hate the fraternities and partying and pretty much fun. I once got interrogated by three cops for about 10 minutes while sitting in the frat house at 2 am for drinking coke out of a solo cup while taking a study break during finals week! They smelled my drink and kept asking me where I had been out and who was in the house. It was absolutely ridiculous. I was freaking 22 at the time. Even if there had been beer or something in my cup, why would that be a big deal??? Nothing was going on, but yet turner sends his goon squad around to make sure, heaven forbid, no one of age is responsibly having a alcoholic beverage I know that's just one example, but in my four years there, I watched as turner, Webb and white worked to tear down everything Greek and or fun. They wouldnt allow us the use the intramural fields for a philanthropy anymore because, guess what, we were a frat.mYou're not even allowed to have parties where freshmen attend for the first month and a half of school now. Of course it still happens, but that rule is just so backasswards. SMU has a great Greek tradition, but turner (just like when he was at Ole Miss) doesn't care and doesn't embrace all the great things that Greeks do. It goes beyond just the greeks, and just partying In general. its college for gods sake. He just looks at the red cup and fails to see beyond it. Re: Will SMU Eventually Require 4 Year On-Campus Housing?Thats interesting, because i am pretty sure i have seen him walk right through the student section of the boulevard where there are a couple of hundred drunk underage kids and have no problem with it.
I think you are being a drama queen. Its college. people are going to get drunk, and sometimes people are going to get in trouble for getting too drunk. Happens on every campus in america. Its particularly hard when you are in an urban campus in the middle of a really nice neighborhood. SMU is not anti Greek. Every single board of trustee whos vote matters (the ones with money) were in a fraternity. Those are Turners bosses. The greek system is safe.
Re: Will SMU Eventually Require 4 Year On-Campus Housing? They won't push too far, because even if they don't like to admit it, they know exactly where the vast majority of their donations come from, and it ain't the foreign exchange or fine arts alumni.
