http://deadspin.com/the-16-worst-coache ... -51270109615. June Jones (career record: 22-36)
June Jones led the Falcons to the playoffs in 1995, in just his second year. But in Week 4 of '96, after Jeff George basically pissed in his coffee,Jones stubbornly clung to the run-and-shoot, an offense that officially died that year, at the hands of Jones and Bobby Hebert. (Augusta Chronicle headline, Dec. 24, 1996: "Falcons Fire Jones, Finally.") Jones would get another head-coaching gig two years later, even though he admitted up front that he didn't want it. "It's not my ambition to be a head coach again," he said after the Chargers fired Kevin Gilbride. But San Diego was stuck with Ryan Leaf and somebody had to be in charge. Jones played out the string and wisely took off to coach Hawaii after that.

Get over it already. SMU lost to Tulane last year and obviously you hold June personally responsible. That's fine. He is the head coach. So give him all the credit for beating them in 2011. And 2010. And 2009.

What was their losing streak going into the games in 2009-11?

What does it matter that they say he the 15th worst nfl coach of all time. This is college. There are plenty of coaches listed as worse than him on this list that we would all take as the SMU coach in a heartbeat.

How many teams have a winning season with a QB that throws 25 int's?

You don't get "credit" for beating teams you obviously are better than. Winning programs don't necessarily treat those games as "givens" but they certainly don't backslap and high-five when they win.

It isn't that we lost to teams like Tulane and Rice, it is that the team seemed totally unprepared. Do you really think Jones was fully invested in winning that game? He is better than that

Re: #15 worst NFL Coach of all time
I have my issues with Jones, but being a washout in the NFL is not one. Saban did not last long there either and he seems to do ok in the college ranks. Lou Holtz won a national championship after admitting he was not cut out for the NFL with the Jets. This is a non comparable matter although an interesting story.

Which is a running theme the past 5 years. We look totally unprepared VERY frequently.couch 'em wrote:It isn't that we lost to teams like Tulane and Rice, it is that the team seemed totally unprepared. Do you really think Jones was fully invested in winning that game? He is better than that

Saban stunk in the NFL. Pitino and Calipari stunk in the NBA. Completely meaningless.
And yes, you do get credit for beating teams you should beat, because unless you're Alabama or LSU or something, almost any team can upset another. Stop bashing our coach.

Re: #15 worst NFL Coach of all time
The list is garbage. It doesn't have one single St. Louis rams coach on it. Spags and Linehan are easily two of the worst five coaches in the history of the NFL and they aren't even on the list. I may have issues with June but he's a lot better than that.
