Notre Dame also has PE as a major as well and Vandy has the Peabody School to help the kids get a degree and stay eligible.jpe747 wrote:I don't know how it is today but it is my understanding that schools like Rice and Stanford would admit athletes with less academic standing if they would major in Physical Education. Not sure of the accuracy of that concept.

I don't know about Notre Dame, but Peabody at Vanderbilt is the #1 Ranked School of Education in the country according to US News and World Reports, and has been four years running, besting Johns Hopkins and Harvard. You can argue about the source, but that's impressive company.

Thats an interesting way to try to keep your jocks eligible, put them in arguably the single best school in the world in it's field.....

I may be off on this, but remembering back to when I applied, Peabody was an easier school to get into at Vandy than their main Arts & Sciences (I think that's what it was called) department.leopold wrote:I don't know about Notre Dame, but Peabody at Vanderbilt is the #1 Ranked School of Education in the country according to US News and World Reports, and has been four years running, besting Johns Hopkins and Harvard. I could believe that. May still be the case.
But when Vandy bought Peabody for what? $500M? it was hovering around 4th or 5th, and with that amount of money and with those credentials I don't think VU was ever planning on using it simply as a way to keep Darrell, Darrell, and Darrell on the field.
