Defensive end will play for Mustangs after senior season

Leander defensive end Michael Epley verbally committed to Southern Methodist University on Saturday night, finalizing his college football plans before his senior season with the Lions.

"It’s just a huge relief and gives me more time to focus on next year, getting better and working toward our goal of a state championship," he said.

Epley also had a scholarship offer from Rice and a couple Big 12 schools were showing interest, including Oklahoma State and Kansas. But the defensive end made the decision to attend the Dallas-based school after a visit on Thursday and made the phone call Saturday evening.
