Also- where the [deleted] is the marketing? No billboards on Central? I haven't seen anything advertising SMU football for 2013. There would be a big billboard on Central next to SMU with GG and Acker if I were running the show (which I should be).

I agree with everything but this. We spend advertising money and promote individuals and then something happens to the kid (see Justin Willis). We need to promote but I would rather promote the team as a whole and not spot light certain players. As soon as you do they will transfer, get injured, get arrested, etc.

SMU is not going to see a significant uptick in season ticket sales until we have a product that has legitimate value. What is that? It's a top 25 program (see TCU) that can compete with anyone we are able to bring into Ford to play us. In "The American", especially against the eastern teams, attendance will be pretty pathetic because there are no attractive opponents (Navy will help in the future)

The simple fact is that SMU in the modern era has always relied on our opponents to help fill the seats. Keep playing TCU, Baylor and UNT (was pleased to see Hart say they will be staples on future schedules)

For those games against Temple, Rutgers, UConn, etc...we really need to run promos and dramatically discount tickets to try to get some butts in all those empty seats

For now, let's appreciate those very loyal 8,000 who are paying full price for seats that aren't worth what they are paying (at least not to anyone who isn't a true supporter of SMU)

We have 8,000 season ticket holders (all of which dont necessarily show up), and a SMALL stadium that seats 32,000...

So thats 1/4th of our entire stadium. THATS BAD. Especially when TCU has 30,000 Season ticket holders...

What the h*&% is it going to take to get this going. We need to be at 20,000 season ticket holders to not be embaressed.

Say 2,000 students go (trying to be realistic), and a casual 1,000 others come to a game, we are sitting at 11,000 at a given football game. Unacceptable.

That's actually pretty good.

In 2000 when we opened we had 10,000 ticket holders (new stadium)

Same thread - new year. There was some nice excitement prior to Baylor only to get embarrassed completely. Casual fan immediately losses interest. Previous year casual fan goes to actually travel to A&M only to be embarassed completely. Old SwC fans are checked out at that point. Momentum killers!

TCU has built a program and has a much better schedule than SMU.

Even casual fans in The Fort can justify a few season tickets as they have friends who attended the schools TCU plays (UT, OU, TT,BU ) and knows they would want to see them local versus driving.

We have to accept TCU is a different place.

But we don't have to give up or think we can't improve and be competitive.

We can. We have a wonderful platform to be successful and as we upgrade conferences - the American isn't our last stop - we will develop.

Being in Dallas with alumnus who support with big money is the key to keep us relevant.

Same thread - new year. There was some nice excitement prior to Baylor only to get embarrassed completely. Casual fan immediately losses interest. Previous year casual fan goes to actually travel to A&M only to be embarassed completely. Old SwC fans are checked out at that point. Momentum killers!

Totally agree. I remember at halftime of the Baylor debacle, everyone was saying SOS different year.

Slightly differnt view. I am shopping up here in Arkyland a week or so ago. Some random guy says to me,You did good last year. I don't think he is talking to me at first then I realize I have a SMU t-shirt on. I make a comment about we are doing better and he goes on to say that we have won 2 bowls in a row and kicked some team in a bowl this last year. He ends the conversation by saying we are finally back. This guy knows about SMU and our recent success which is very unusual up here in Arkyland.

We that are close to the program may not realize that we are starting to catch other fans' attention. It may not mean more fans in the stands but it might mean better ratings which is important as well. And maybe just maybe we could start getting more casual fans to show up.

It is hard to imiagine a person in Arkyland that knows anything about teams outside the state. That is why is was so unusal. I wear LSU stuff (by the way, a chick magnet in this state) so get to hear about LSU all the time. But SMU, nobody ever talks about us.

TCU went through the same thing and didn't see a significant bump in attendance until LT and a 10 win season. Double digit wins will get the attention of people and drive attendance up. Season tickets will increase after continuous success. But 6-6 and 7-5 doesn't grab enough attention.
