Realignment 101: Getting to know the new landscape of college sports
"You’re forgiven if you’ve lost track of all the announced changes, especially as it trickled down from the big moves by big leagues in recent years to the mid-major and low-major conferences. The new geography will take some getting used to."

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Calling the AAC a huge loser is sort of silly when you consider that moving from cusa to the AAC was a win for most of the teams in the conference. A conference is just a collection of schools. If most of the schools in a conference improve their position is the conference still a loser?

I think "Yahoo" says it all.Grant Carter wrote:Calling the AAC a huge loser is sort of silly when you consider that moving from cusa to the AAC was a win for most of the teams in the conference. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

How the conference performs on the field in OOC games will determine whether it's a "winner" or "loser." If it can remain relevant and have teams which are in the national conversation, then that will be awesome. I still remember a couple years ago- '07 maybe? when USF was ranked #2 in the nation at one point

Well, if you were a fan of the conference as it was structured or work in the conference comissioner's offices I guess you could say the conference is a huge loser. It just lost multiple NCAA tournament teams, TV revenue, BCS affiliation, and the basketball tournament in MSG.Grant Carter wrote:Calling the AAC a huge loser is sort of silly when you consider that moving from cusa to the AAC was a win for most of the teams in the conference. Briefly, I am enthusiastic for the future of SMU and our new conference mates. We can debate whether this is a perfect solution, but honestly, we need to step up our game, create excitement and win against conference teams and quality OOC opponents.
Imagine how well The American will be viewed, if SMU, Houston, UCF and others out perform expectations throughout the season. We want all our mates to play well early in the season and finish strong with a goal that the final season for Louisville and Rutgers will not be viewed as a problem for the 2014 season and beyond.
SMU and our conference needs to earn respect, not demand it. If successful in FB and BB, we will be in great company, help create excitement on campus, be relevant in Big D and Texas and strengthen our brand. Pony Up!
