JORDAN SEVERT: Next in line?

Post by PonyPride »

There's a lot to like about quarterback Austin Severt of Austin's Westlake High School: size, strength, big arm, athleticism, intelligence and success in multiple sports. Severt and his offensive coordinator visited with PonyFans.com to discuss his ability on the field and how he could fit in at SMU.

The videos on this kid's passing look really good. Looks like a strong, quick arm. He put the ball down field very accurately. He's tall and strong - with his size he can probably can take a lick. It sounds like he has football intelligence. He could be a very good pick up for SMU.

I agree. His throwing motion looks absolutely effortless, like everything's a flip of the wrist. I assume that means there's a lot more there when he throws with a full wind-up.
Great stuff from his coach here.

It's good to read that we're not only adding QB depth, but it sounds like we're adding some real QUALITY depth at the position.
The more I read about this guy, the more I think he could end up being a steal.

This kid can play. Between him, Colbert, and Cassel I think there will be a healthy competition for who gets to backup Burcham in 2014 and beyond.
Back off Warchild seriously.

With the trend of teams using more mobile QBs like RG3 and Russell Wilson makes me hope he gets a shot at QB. He has been very productive and successful, and seems to be a great leader, so he should get a chance. If someone beats him out and he can help at another position, fine, but he is being recruited as a quarterback and should start out there.

I agree with Scoops. He was recruited as a QB and should be given every opportunity to compete as a QB. If we are lying to the kid about playing QB it is unfair to the kid because he could have gone somewhere else and played QB.
