Thanks for posting. Really think we should have a few more of these by year 5...

This isn't the 80's. Bowls mean very little in today's ncaa. There's hardly a bcs team out there that couldn't put together 6 wins with our schedule.

Yes, it's better than not being in 4 straight bowl games. Yes, it's better than the abysmal state we were in 5 years ago. No, it's nothing to wave in the air as a banner that we have arrived on the college football scene. I have higher expectations for this team. We've had a few good wins and we are certainly capable of consistently beating inferior competition (something we've greatly struggled with). Lets stop being so happy with mediocrity. It's time to start being one of the best non bcs teams and not just an average program that is good but not great in a decidedly weak conference.

They mean a lot to a frigging team that went 59-and 164 in the previous TWENTY SEASONS. One Hundred Sixty Four losses to Fifty Nine wins. Sometimes I wonder about the collective memory of this board.

I am a little disappointed that after 4 straight bowls that we don't have more top 100 players headed to SMU. That is not a good trend as SMU heads towards tougher schedules.

No...let's try to be one of the best BCS teams. I may be mistaken, but we are in a BCS conference for this year... aren't we? Let's make the best of it.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

So how long are we suppose to celebrate average bowls, basically middle of the pack, before we move up our goals to be in the top 25 pct?

Name a bcs team that couldn't win 6 games against the likes of Tulane, rice, Marshall, Utep, UAB, and a division II team? I'm not saying we haven't made progress from where we were, but using bowl games as a bench mark for success is just stupid. Winning 6 games in CUSA is not comparable to winning 6 games in the big 10, big 12, PAC, acc, or sec. Certainly you realize that. If our goal is to be an above average/good team in cusa aka the American, then great- mission accomplished! If our goal is to even think about achieving what tcu has, we need to compare ourselves to the bcs conference teams that we play (who have annihilated us recently) and not be happy saying "oh but we held a&m's offense for a quarter!...and then lost by 45".

What is the goal here?

If we win conference go to a BCS game this year. Not saying 6 wins is an acceptable goal but 8 wins would get us conference championship imo.

I thought the goal was to talk about the SMU commit who made the Texas top 100. Not every thread has to be monitored for positive sentiment to be countered.

I was just responding to someone else's post. Sorry to change topics on the thread. I'm glad we have a Texas Top 100 recruit. Recruiting is clearly incredibly important and we need good recruits if we are going to have any real success.

This year is a unique scenario where we have a 1 year window at an automatic BCS berth.

Don't blame me for derailing the thread. There's not a single smu fan out there who didn't think a Texas top 100 recruit would be such a rarity by year 5 of June's tenure. THAT, I am sure of.

6 wins and a Hawaii Bowl berth, at least as long as June is here. All the BCS buster talk dried up when June realized the guys he fought so hard against thin air to get didn't turn out as good as he thought they would.
