Season Ticket Sales Update
July 24, 2013
DALLAS (SMU) - With a little over a month until kickoff, SMU football tickets are a hot item, with over 1,500 new season tickets sold in the last three months.
A big part of the success was the new "Young Alumni Section" which sold out less than a month after it was launched. Similar new sections for alumni of the Cox School of Business and the Dedman School of Law were launched recently and have quickly proven very popular. For former athletes, SMU has launched a new "Varsity Zone," an exclusive section for former SMU letterwinners.
SMU opens the season on Friday, Aug. 30, when the Mustangs host Texas Tech at 7 p.m. at Ford Stadium in a "Friday Night Under the Lights." Fewer than 2,500 tickets remain for sale, so SMU and Tech fans should act fast.
Contact the SMU Ticket Office at 214-768-4263 for tickets.

1,500 in the past three months? I think we were somewhere around 8,000 last month. So probably around 9k now? Still not great.
Good to hear that Tech is close to being sold out. That will look good on national TV.

This was a smart move...building stand communities is a great way to ensure attendance regardless of the production the field.

It is a positive development. This is going to take time. I just hope we are not too badly outnumbered for the Tech game. I will also confess that I am part of the problem. 3 of my 4 seats are backing Tech. A colleague of mine and his kids. He's a lost cause, played BB at tech but I have hope for his kids

Re: Season Ticket Sales Update
I still don't understand why they put a cap on the number of young alumni season tickets.
Re: Season Ticket Sales Update
I imagine they designated a certain section as the young alumni section. Having them scattered throughout the stadium would kinda defeat the purpose, no? Most of us should be able to afford a $99 season ticket anyway.PonyPlayer4 wrote:I still don't understand why they put a cap on the number of young alumni season tickets.

Re: Season Ticket Sales Update
This is pathetic. With sells like this, I might one day lose the entire section I now have to myself!

Re: Season Ticket Sales Update
Since "young alumni" learned (as an SMU student) to only stay for half of a game, sell 1st half tickets and 2nd half tickets for the same seats. Double your pleasure, double your fun.PonyPlayer4 wrote:I still don't understand why they put a cap on the number of young alumni season tickets.

That's some students not young alumni.Bergermeister wrote:Since "young alumni" learned to only stay for half of a game, sell 1st half tickets and 2nd half tickets for the same seats. Re: Season Ticket Sales Update
I applaud SMU's ticket sales people for implementing sections devoted to a particular group.
Outstanding in so many ways. One - it gets butts in the seats for TV ( no one cares what they paid just that the stadium looks full, two- these groups get closer and have a reason to see each other and this builds school loyalty, three- they may bring along the casual fan who has a good time and returns on his own.
This is a great program. Even at $99 a season ticket, it is better than 0 which is what we get when the seat doesn't sell.

Re: Season Ticket Sales Update
I think it's encouraging that we sold that many seats at whatever price...if the purchasers were actually SMU alumni. That would suggest we've been growing the "student" fan base in recent years...after almost 25 years of apathy
Re: Season Ticket Sales Update
Good to hear about the Young Alumni zone and others. Yes, I am not sure why they couldn't expand that zone, plenty of end zone seats next to the current students. Not like they get filled.
The other zones are a good idea so people can sit in groups.

Re: Season Ticket Sales Update
Oldest trick in the book. Act now, only 20 slots available.
This just in, we just opened another 10 slots!
Let me get with my manager, if we've had any cancellations there might be another 7-10 slots I can put you in but need a cc # to hold.

Re: Season Ticket Sales Update
When/where did they announce these new sections? I didn't receive anything.

Don't count on the athletic ticket office for reliable information - or any information at all for that matter. They can't find their ars with both hands.JoeKidd wrote: When/where did they announce these new sections? I didn't receive anything.
