Re: AAC Apparently Has Lost Liberty Bowl
It is a loss to lose any bowl that pairs us against one of the big boys. Teams like Army, Nevada, and Fresno St. are cute and all, but let's see how we stack up against a legitimate team.
Hopefully we replace this with other bowls with real tie-ins.

totally agree. Would've loved to see SMU in the Liberty Bowl. No way to spin this as a positive.leopold wrote:We're losing a bowl that is geographically close to our school, actually has a little bit of history, and is in a city perfectly suited to play host for three or four days and that absolutely loves college football - not to mention the chance to play a team from a conference people care about. This was the best bowl available for us after a BCS game. This is absolutely a loss.
Not to mention, you watch - the SEC and Big XII will fill it up year after year.

Considering that team will almost certainly be no higher than the Pac-12's 7th or 8th place team, hopefully the AAC can send their champion elsewhere. http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegespo ... ncaas-bow/mustangxc wrote:I think this is why we are creating our own bowl game in Miami to face a PAC12 team.

Why would a bowl sponsor in Miami want a PAC12 team? It won't draw well at all.mustangxc wrote:I think this is why we are creating our own bowl game in Miami to face a PAC12 team.

Better a 6th or 7th place Pac-12 team than #1 or #2 in C-USA.
From the bowl perspective, you're right though, could be a tough draw. Miami in January isn't the worst destination, though.

But if you're trying to get people there from California where the weather is always nice anyway, it will be a really tough sellEast Coast Mustang wrote:Better a 6th or 7th place Pac-12 team than #1 or #2 in C-USA.

True. Utah, Colorado, Washington, WSU, and Oregon State might be better bets.blackoutpony wrote:But if you're trying to get people there from California where the weather is always nice anyway, it will be a really tough sellEast Coast Mustang wrote:Better a 6th or 7th place Pac-12 team than #1 or #2 in C-USA.

Washington to Miami? That's a hell of a trip for a low tier bowl game.

Re: AAC Apparently Has Lost Liberty Bowl
Is there an AAC team that travels very well besides possibly Louisville? When UCONN went to the Fiesta Bowl in 2011, they sold less than 3,000 tickets out of their allotment of 17,500 and had to absorb almost $3million in ticket costs as the old Big East did not cover the costs of the tickets.mustangxc wrote:I think this is why we are creating our own bowl game in Miami to face a PAC12 team.
