Reich suffers setback

Postby PonyPride » Fri Jul 26, 2013 7:28 pm

Offensive tackle Taylor Reich confirmed this week that his recovery from surgery on his right ankle was delayed when it was discovered that he broke the pin that was implanted in the ankle. He said the pin broke once before, prompting doctors to replace it.

He said there is hope that another surgical procedure won't be necessary this time, however. The first time the pin broke, the ankle had not healed enough to get by without replacing the pin. This time, he said, doctors are hopeful that the muscles and tendons around the break have healed to the point that he can return to full health without additional surgery.

Reich said he hopes to be cleared Aug. 7 to return to the field with his teammates. The Mustangs report Aug. 3 for their first preseason workout.

I hate to see this. Reich has had a bad run of luck with that ankle.
Hopefully the repairs hold this time.
Good luck!

Hate to hear this. Hope he heals. That's a lot of size on that ankle (all in all, he's even bigger than Margus - one inch shorter but 20 or so pounds heavier).

Man, that's sad to hear, but it sounds like it could have been a lot worse.
Got to hope he gets cleared quick.

Hey all..thanks for the well wishes and kind words for Taylor...this surgery was more complex than the last one..they had to re-break his ankle and also put in 3 new screws...they expected a 3 moth turn, but at his last visit a few weeks ago, they noticed the new screws broke again...while they expected that, it occurred faster than they thought..the good news is we heard that the bones and tendons appeared to be holding...so they decided to take extra precaution and have him continue to take it easy on it for an additional 30 days..thus the Aug. 7th time frame where he will be re-evaluated. While it's frustrating, it was one of those freak accidents that occurred last year and he continues to fight hard and maintain his focus and dedication to be ready to get into the mix soon...so keep him in your thoughts and know he is doing EVERYTHING he can to be ready for this season...PONY UP!! We will definitely need him but more likely the most need will be later rather than sooner as the season wears on the players. Hopefully he will take it slow and be able to step in full speed when ready. Last thing he wants to do is rush it and lose another year.

I agree with mrydel: take it as slow as is necessary to make sure that ankle is fully healed.
Good luck, Taylor!

Totally agree with mrydel and Hoofprint. Take your time, let that heal up, get to 100% and then take the frustration out on the competition. Your perseverance will make you a tougher player. And with your size, sky's the limit. Left coast!

Thanks for an accurate and enlightening update. We are all pulling for Taylor to get past this injury and get back on the field.

I am happy to report that Taylor's visit to the surgeon went very well today-he has been cleared to run and practice fully starting tomorrow. Dr. Curry was happy with the healing, etc. It will require Taylor to be taped up every practice and through the season...but at this point...good to go!! He's excited and eager to get in the mix and compete! Jeff :D
