Article: In 20 Years College Football Will Be Dead

Post by Rayburn »

"College football as we know it will be dead within 20 years, but it won’t be from health/concussion issues, nor will it be because of the "cable sports bubble." It will be because colleges and universities as we know them now will cease to exist and when they go they will take collegiate sports with them:"

I don't care about college football in 20 years. I just care about the next 20 weeks (or so).

Will these Harvard online degrees still be $40,000/year?

It'll definitely change but for the good or the bad - no one knows at this point. It just can't keep going the way it is.

Though if I'm a betting man - it's for the worse.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

You may have seen this:

The Georgia Institute of Technology College of Computing announced [on May 14] that it will offer the first professional Online Master of Science degree in computer science (OMS CS) that can be earned completely through the "massive online" format. The degree will be provided in collaboration with online education leader Udacity Inc. and AT&T.

Source: http://www.gatech.edu/newsroom/release.html?nid=212951

The cost? Expected to be below $7,000. Traditional MS CS = $40,000. Watch out red brick and mortar universities....

I had mentioned something about this earlier. The secret to continuing with a sports program may be related to how innovative the university is with staying relevant. College doors are projected to start closing around the country. I hope our leadership can focus on keeping SMU vital in the coming years.

In addition, this is yet another reason to develop more fans in the Metroplex and make our sports programs money generators and not money devouring problems. If we loose our student base perhaps SMU could continue with college sports as a profitable activity.
