The air-raid offense, with its emphasis on 'make a decision' now throws, actually favors young quarterbacks. Instead of complexity, it's hand off or keep, throw 1 or throw 2, and do it NOW. In some ways the polar opposite of the RnS.
The kid will not have to go up against an experienced defense, but he will have to deal with an experienced secondary. If we can get any kind of pressure on the kid, especially with his best target out the first half, we may be able to hurt 'em.
But I say, now more than ever, the game hinges on Garrett Gilbert.
THIS ^. Will be interesting to see where said pressure will come from. I hope someone emerges as I'm not sure I see any one person as a pass rushing threat. Will have to be schemed and done by committee I guess. Stephon Sanders is really going to have to step up and make many big plays every single week.

We must rattle him, and not let him gain any confidence.

Remember the freshman qb from Houston a couple of years ago? I think he was starting his second game against SMU, and threw for a mile of yardage, in a blowout win. That was the game that had the storm delay. Don't take ANYTHING or anyone for granted.

I don't think anyone is taking anything for granted. But the reality is that they have lost some good players and they are learning a new system which should help us out. We still need to play well and I think we will.

It often seems like we are still learning a new system, at least on offense.

I agree. Many here say we have an advantage because Tech is learning a new system. And, oh yeah, we will be better because Hal Mummy is bringing in new twists to our offense. I guess we can figure out the changes quicker than Tech.

I guess a twist to an existing system is easier to figure out than a new system. I hope we come out hitttin' hard.

http://espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=302962567You're right that the 2010 45-20 Cougar win at SMU was only true freshman David Piland's third start. However, the game wasn't decided by him throwing for a ton of yardage. In fact, Kyle Padron statistically outperformed him except for two picks by Kyle. David did well in guiding UH as he learned more of the playbook. He didn't play spring ball and wasn't getting any practice snaps until the fourth game of the year because the top two QBs went down in game three. Here's a note from the write-up: "Receiver Tyron Carrier had a big special-teams TD for Houston. After the Mustangs got within 24-17 on Padron's 29-yard scoring pass to Cole Beasley in the third quarter, Carrier returned the ensuing kickoff 91 yards to re-establish a 14-point lead and squash SMU's momentum." Hopefully Garrett will deftly lead the offense against Tech, while the defense will do enough to frustrate and stall the Tech offense.

We’re hearing Brewer is simply recovering more slowly from a nagging injury then expected but he should resume practicing Tuesday. Not an official source so can't vouch for its accuracy.
