Its amazing the advances they've made in repairing torn ACLs/MCLs. I remember not so long ago when that injury meant you were basically finished.
If this kid misses his senior season and then redshirts at SMU, that would be more than enough time for him to get back to 100%. He'll need to keep himself in shape. But overall this could be a good gamble.

I've torn both (2005/2008) and even in the last 5 years, the advances have been crazy.1983 Cotton Bowl wrote:Its amazing the advances they've made in repairing torn ACLs/MCLs. I remember not so long ago when that injury meant you were basically finished.

I will take a gamble all day on a kid who runs (ran?) a 4.4

Props to Coach Odum for not only doing the homework (was this kid's first offer), but also for apparently doing a great job keeping in touch throughout the recruitment process. Had some monster stats last year.
6'2, 175 lbs., 4.44
Jr. Stats
24 receptions, 668 yards (28 YPC), 15 TDs
11 rushes, 187 yards (17 YPC), 3 TDs
On defense: 89 tackles, 2 picks

not monster stats for a guy at a lower Division. Heck that kid from 1st Baptist that begged for an offer had 2,000 yards receiving and 30 TDs last year as a Junior. You see silly stats in lower divisions. I remember Bam Morris averaged 13 yards per carry in high school and he carried the ball 30 times a game. With lower divisions you can basically throw the stats out the window and focus on whether he is a superior athlete like Dee Paul almost singlehandedly winning Class A Track Meet.

I believe the kid is in 3A. Not the highest, but his school is low population, and not in a major area of florida hs football. Still, could be a good pick-up for SMU. Welcome William.

Its seems sort of odd that scout only thinks we have 13 guys committed when everyone else reports 15. Silly scoutSMU 86 wrote:Give him some time to heal and he could be good to go.

Not to quibble, but you do realize the kid averages 3 pts. per touch.Stallion wrote:not monster stats for a guy at a lower Division

Sure... Like any kid, he'll have to prove it on the bigger stage. And he'll have to come back from the injury. Still, after enduring the incessant whining about our lack of recruiting effort, isn't it encouraging to see that 1) we identified a solid, potential talent first, and 2) SMU did a good job staying on top of this kid's recruitment?

yeah I noticed there are 23 people in the stands too. The guy from 1st Baptist with 2,044 yards receiving and 33 TDs had 2x monster stats then. What is that super duper monster stats. There are about 10 RETURNING players in Class 1A and 2A in Texas who ran for more than 2,000 yards last year and not one will get a scholarship. Do YOU Get it?

Re: New commitment: William Jeanlys
Only SMU and Tulane offered even when he was healthy while other schools knew about him. It is a bit premature to say it was a good recruiting effort due to lack of offers and low level of competition. Pretty easy to get a recruit when he has a severe injury and almost everyone else has backed off. SMU was really his only major choice. What it does show is that SMU honors their word on scholarships of players they want. And that is good for every player in Florida to know. Let's get another one from Florida.

Re: New commitment: William Jeanlys
in Texas private schools we have offered WRs Kade Clayton with 34 TDs and looked closely at First Baptist Trae Hart with 33 TDs. Nobody else worth mentioning in Texas seemed very interested even though these guys are kind of unusual because they allegedly runs in the 4.3s too. Two private school kids with about double the number of TDs as Jeanlys-yet they can not be characterized as highly recruited. SMU itself offered at least 12 receivers before these private school kids. We settle for these kids because we got outrecruited for the kids we liked better
