DALLAS (AP) — See SMU throw. And throw some more. "Well, if we take a vote on what we do, it's going to be pass, I promise you that. It will be 2-0 pass," said Hal Mumme, the new passing game coordinator for sixth-year Mustangs coach June Jones. "If I don't want to throw it, I'll probably look at June and say what do you want to do, and he'll say why don't we throw it."

Re: SMU Throw into AACJune needs to stick with the only things that have actually won us games since he has been here: defense, special teams and te running game. When I think of our pass game I think of the Washington state loss.
Re: SMU Throw into AACI would like to see SMU get to the point where we could have a pounding, grinding running game that could wear defenses out and keep opposing offenses on the bench. I like passing but football is still the running game.
Re: SMU Throw into AACI think we need to finally fix this passing game... and then run Shead and Gilbert.

An effective, reliable passing Game would be a welcome change.
Re: SMU Throw into AAC8th seems about right. The defense with the exception of the linebackers, and our wide receivers worry me
Re: SMU Throw into AAC
So in other words, you would like to see a different coaching roster. This offense hasn't been operating as Jones wants it to because it takes a long time to learn the scheme. Now that Gilbert and the receivers have had some time to learn it they should be throwing more...and more...and more. As the article states, it's all about the pass. This isn't a spread 'em out, run first offense. It's a stay in the pocket, read the defense, and fire rockets offense. Zach Line was a diamond in the rough, and we were damn lucky to have him. June fell back on the running game because the passing game just wasn't there. The playbook was small, and defenses figured it out very quickly. Didn't it seem like the best pass plays last year were ones that had either broken down entirely or had opened a hole for Gilbert to run 40 yards? Any success SMU has had in the past three years is due to the record-breaking performance of Zach Line. It will be really exciting to see if the passing game grows this year. I think the talent is there with both the QB and the receivers; it's just a matter of being able to read the defense and stay on the same page all of the time. With all of that said, if we have first and goal from inside the 3 yard line and the play call is a freaking fade I will pull my hair out.
