Re: Silver Linings
Early in the game, Tech hit a reciever who I thought had plenty of open field to run. Greenbauer ran the length of the field and tackled him. I thought for sure he chose a bad angle, but it was a really impressive play.Stallion wrote:Greenbauer is a steady reliable tackler in the open field. I think he missed one on last TD but saved about 3-4 TDs earlier

Re: Silver Linings
Gaines can play. We got a good one there. Acker is solid as usual.

Re: Silver Linings
1. Our offense moved the ball. On some of these drag routes one broken tackle and we are going to break big plays.
2. No Hail Mary passes on third and 1. We moved the chains.
3. The other Zach Line (game day announcer wasn't part of the silver linings). Prescott did a really nice job picking up blitzes and chipping rushers - gave GG a chance. Plays a lot like his brother did as a freshman. If he has half of his brother's heart he is going to be a big, big contributor.
4. The tempo of the offense and different looks. Motion caused the D to shift and made them easier to diagnose. We still need to perfect when to sub our players so the D cannot match and rest. This is the first game with it, but if they can speed it up some more it will keep the D more in Vanilla packages.
5. The D line played better than expected.

Re: Silver Linings
I thought our guys fought very hard, lots of good effort.
DLine - looked big, good on run defense, made a few goal line stands, pretty impressed but didnt really put enough pressure on Mayfield.
Linebackers - not physical at all, pretty disappointing. Really missed JG and Reed. If Joyner is out, really worrisome. Thought Sanders would be able to create more havoc. Jason, my son who plays linebacker for his high school and studies the linebackers said the same thing about the crossing routes and backers not being able to do their job at all on those.
DBacks - i'm sure i was wrong, but i remember thinking acker's pass breakup in the Third Qtr was the first pass break i saw all day. We let them catch everything clean. tackling after the the catch was ok, but not enough physicality for the ball.
Gilbert - i dont know what to think, he was under alot of pressure and didnt turn it over so he gets a passing grade i think.
RBs - tough night all around.
Oline - not terrible in the first half but really inconsistent it seems like, and they broke down in the second half.
WRs - pretty good, something to buildon.

Re: Silver Linings
no geldings and qb didn't run to the sidelines. my son said Prescott looks just like Zach....it was great seeing our nfl Mustangs on the sidelines.
Re: Silver Linings
Agree w several of the on-the-field positives already mentioned.
Tailgate was in good form....excellent giddyup-lemonade...and good turnout by the usual suspects.

1. Sold-out Ford Stadium for national ESPN broadcast.
2. Chase Hover kicks a 51-yard field goal on last play of first half. (Undermined, I know, by missed chip shot).
3. Jeremy Johnson catches 12 passes for 131 yards, including one for 51 yards.
4. Darius Joseph catches 11 passes for 103 yards.
5. We didn't lose to McNeese State by 32 points.

Re: Silver Linings
biggest silver lining for me was that Gilbert had no INTs and SMU had no turnovers. Shead put it on the turf a couple of times but we were fortunate to recover his fumbles. Actually pretty amazing that Tech starts a walk-on frosh and neither team turns it over
