That was one of those temporary jerseys. Lancaster is number 3 and so is pope, they both play on punt return so one of them has to wear the temporary jersey. Surely everyone remembers jagared doing this all the time last year.

Also, I think it is too early to say any redshirts were burned. To me a burned redshirt is when a true freshman just plays a very few plays or just one game then does not play at all or at least not much the rest of the season. If those guys keep playing material snaps then I would not characterize them as burned redshirts. That is not to say I would not prefer that we redshirted everyone, just that I think calling them burned is premature.
