Re: ?? Outrage from Jones ??
The TV announcers (I don't know who they were or where they came from) kept saying over and over that they were amazed that SMU didn't blitz this 19 year old walk on quarterback. He was bound to be tense for his first game ever, but so far as I remember from watching the whole game, we only blitzed a couple of times. Anybody explain the reasoning here?
Re: ?? Outrage from Jones ??
My guess is Mason wanted to keep everything in front of the D and force the kid to have to play perfect, with the expectation he'd make a mistake sooner or later

Which he did a few times but we didn't capitalize (couple of picks dropped, didn't recover that fumble).

This is the case time and time again. It is becoming a broken record.PoconoPony wrote:jpe747 wrote:Because I didn't expect their freshman qb to destroy our defense the way he did. I knew they would be bigger and stronger. I saw our offense play BETTER then I expected. But, I was very disappointed that a freshman 'nobody' could destroy our defense. This was a total reverse over last year when I was very disappointed over our offense and please with our defense. You call it blinders, I don't remember anyone on this board including you saying this freshman was the next Johnny Football.
Not too tough to complete passes when your D only has 3 rushers who were stopped at the line by a better O line. We seldom blitzed and put pressure on the QB. Bottom line is that we were totally out schemed and coached on both sides of the line.

Forget the officiating.....someone called a pass play that picked up over 50 yards and then we never saw it again. Only those amazing short yardage passes....I really am over JJ!

Still no type of goal line package. This team really needs a lead blocker in the backfield when the offense is inside the opponents 10.

Soccermom, it started several years ago by the students, no particular reason that I know of. Alchohol maybe? They threw 100's of the damn things at once and littered the field. Game would have to stop so the field could be cleared. I thought it was usually done after the initial kick off but can't remember exactly. NCAA finally banned it.soccermom wrote:Forget the officiating.....someone called a pass play that picked up over 50 yards and then we never saw it again. Except in other stadiums, apparently. Should have been a warning and then a penalty. It's dumb.lwjr wrote:Soccermom, it started several years ago by the students, no particular reason that I know of. Re: ?? Outrage from Jones ??
The SWC had the best officals in the US back in the day. The SWC allowed the coaches to refuse one official a year from refing any of their games. This was rarely triggered because the refs knew if they really screwed up, they would lose the opportunity to officiate games.
This check and ballance was a huge reason that SWC were excellent. Of course the Beleoved Razorback fans thought the officiating cost them every loss but Broyles, Holtz and others never blackballed an offical.
Unfortunately, after the SWC broke up, that option for coaches was also lost. So officials now can screw up like no tomorrow and not have to answer to anyone or anything.

Do we know what conference that crew came from?

Straight from Lubbock, I was told the refs always come from the visiting team's conference.Treadway21 wrote:Do we know what conference that crew came from?

Does anybody else get tired of seeing our old conference mates kick our butt? I really expect that we will be 1-3 or 0-4 after our first 4 games with a loss to the f-aggies of over 40pts. The only silver lining to that is that just perhaps those $$$ alums with influence will get tired of their business associates rubbing the weekly scores in their face and decide it really is time to make a coaching change.
