I know some of this was the result of visceral fan devotion, but the pessimism expressed was way over the line and potentially detrimental to the program.
This is going to be an interesting season of SMU football and I think this team -- which is missing a few mainstays from the previous seasons -- will do pretty well. how well? I have no idea, but I'll still pull for the Mustangs as I always have.

Yep, posts on a message board have been known to be real program-killers.

And if a coach like Franklin came here, had 2-3 good years, he is gone. Y'all act like 2 mil a year in 2013 for coaches gets us anybody we want. In 2008 it was impressive, but not anymore. Why would any successful "Franklin Type" stay at SMU the second a bigger offer comes? Vanderbilt is in the SEC and Franklin won't be there after another year or two.Rebel10 wrote:James Franklin has a similar football model and he hasn't won NFL or NCAA championships. Who you gonna call GHOSTBUSTERS to find Vince Lombardi to come back from the dead to coach
usAll I hear is a few 20 something or less know it alls on here who think screaming fire the
coach is the solution to everything.
Until the football equivalent of LB (won both the NFL, and NCAA championships) decides he
wants to coach SMU we will NOT be able to recruit with the big boys. Maybe we could
go back to the Ron Meyer model, and lose the program forever.

That takes 10 -15 years to complete. We only give our coaches 5 or 6.

May the forth be with us.

June seemed to think he was done at 4 years, ask ASUPlanoStang wrote:That takes 10 -15 years to complete. We only give our coaches 5 or 6.

Re: When is PF going to get a grip?
TCU was much further ahead in their 6th year of turning things around as you can see in Stallions post of the stats. Like I said in another post I think June could do that with some adjustments even though we are behind somewhat in year 6 of JJ compared to year 6 of the TCU model. Again we could catch up if the adjustments are made imo. The next round of realignment will not be 10 years away so we need to get rolling.PlanoStang wrote:LA_Mustang wrote:How bout the TCU model?PlanoStang wrote:So you're suggesting going back to the Ron Meyer model

Great post Abu! Remember all of the doom and gloom we heard about them d line? We got Mayfield to fumble twice, unfortunately, Tech recovered those fumbles. Let's go Ponies. Let's get our first W this week.Mustangsabu wrote:Wait until the season is over, for pity's sake. Nobody ever wants to wait before demanding heads roll. We don't know how this season will end up. We do know we lost to Tech. But those who were at the game should have seen it was a better showing than we have mustered under JJ in an OOC game previously. I hate losing but if we are better than we were last year I hardly see the point in firing JJ. The fact is, no matter how much many of the bloodhounds on here hate it, that we can judge nothing about the state of the program until the season is in the books.
Stop bringing up LB, it has no relevance. Enjoy the optimism about our BBall program but comparisons are ignorant.
Support the team. They played well in many areas on Friday and it is their first game in his new mode of playing. Montana State beckons and our voices will be appreciated.

you kidding me? Vandy plays in the SEC! and i'd love to see the margin of defeat because they compete every game just like against Ole Miss this year.PlanoStang wrote:His record is 15-12 at Vandy. Kinda mediocre wouldn't you say
