Montana St. Fan here, what to expect?

Once I finished at SMU, I never lived another day in Dallas - and I'm a fourth generation Dallasite, too. After spending some time in Austin, it's easy to see why everyone I talk to in Dallas wants to live in Austin. SMU and The Ticket are the only decent things going for Dallas.

I may try and move to Austin one day. I am from Kerrville, and that would kind of get me back to the Hill Country (I am very picky about what counties I consider the real hill country) , and even though I like San Antonio since I grew up 60 miles away, I do not want to live there.
Dallas just is not my scene. I work in Fort Worth anyway, but still live off Lovers.

you'll enjoy your visit to Dallas. It is a dynamic city with quite a bit to offer. Gotta do the W museum - have been to three and it is by far the best. Some will let politics cloud their view - and I guess I wont like Obama's since I don't like incompetent blowhards.

Meadows on campus is beautiful, DMA is great, 6th floor museum is moving - although the grassy knoll is underwhelming.

Perot is probably the bet natural history museum in the country. Really well done. Dallas aquarium is fun also near west end.

Uptown is a fun spot - do the west village - and bishop arts in Oak Cliff is funky and has some great restaurants.

For the record Austin is a great city also - scenic, outdoorsy, great food, great music scene. The disenfranchised hippies and unhappy liberals get tiring however, so its great to visit but would wear me out to live there.

I hear you. I love SMU but I have never been a Dallasite. But since you're from Kerrville, why not move back there? I've got a place outside Ingram that I love and get off to every chance I can get.

Bobcatsteve: Go to the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza. This is the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination and I hear they have a lot of programs going on around that. The museum is well organized anytime of year. Check out the Boulevard before the game as well and have a safe trip.

In regards to Uptown Night LIfe, Check out McKinney Ave and Cedar Springs. I know you're with a kid, but for others just in case some good bars are Renfields, Idle Rich, Black Friar, 6th Street, Kung fu, Prime Bar, The Den, Gingerman, and Trophy Room (has a mechanical bull) are all good spots.

If you're a brunch person, in uptown there's Breadwinners, Nick and Sam's Grill, The Common Table and Prime Bar are all solid choices. Saint Anne's has some of the best Egg's Benedict you can find.

If you have time and like roller coasters, there's always Six Flags Over Texas which has over 50 rides with a ton of awesome coasters. Fun for everyone there (kids, families, etc)

And just as a side note for something not an attraction or in uptown, there's a place called Bubba's right next to SMU that has unreal fried chicken. What's a trip to south without fried chicken. Or go to Pluckers for wings and be prepared to chug tums for two straight days, but it's well worth it.

Katy Trail Ice House is also a nice drinking spot, if the weather is nice. Food there though is bad.

Most of the campus is shaded by trees and, yes, there are tents with cooling fans. The Montana St official tent should be fairly comfortable. Start drinking water early and often. The humidity will be high and it will still be hot at game time and probably after. Wear light, breathable clothing.

I am from Florida but went to summer camp with a cousin at Camp Stewart in Hunt when I was in 4th-5th grades. LOVED the setting there, it was like being in a different world with the river, the bluffs, etc.

There will be plenty of empty seats... but the visitor's section will be in the shade by 7:30 at the very latest
