Jones #7 on Coaches Hot SeatModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot SeatI don't think London is on the hot seat. UVa had a big rebuilding job, his predecessor committed the sin of losing to William and Mary, and he's reputed to be a great recruiter in Virginia where UVA was losing all the battles to Tech. If UVa shows improvement and they beat BYU last week, he should be fine. Edsall on the other hand came to Maryland and proceeded to tick everyone off and then have a crappy season. He's definitely on the hot seat. UConn and Houston coaches definitely belong there. I think JJ belongs there as well since coaching is about what have you done for me lately. And lately we've been mediocre.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot SeatI talked to a UConn fan earlier this week who complained that Coach Pasqueloni's system is "like taking football back to the 80s." I said that June is the same way. He responded, "No, I meant the 1880s."
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot SeatDoes anyone else find it ironic how every sports announcer bows to Jones as a genius offensive guru but SMU fans know different.
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot Seat
Paul Johnson is not on a hot seat. Georgia Tech has an excellent dual-threat QB who you haven't heard of yet in Vad Lee. You're about to hear of him. Soon. But, excellent thinking. Let me give you another name....Jeff Monken. All he's done is turn around a .500 Georgia Southern program and go to the FCS semi's three years running. He worked under Paul Johnson for over 10 years and runs the same offense. And he'd be relatively cheap. Then go all out to hire the best staff you could, with excellent recruiters, and recruit the hell out of the defense. The offense is a "system" that will crank out yards and points almost no matter who you plug in. AAC beware. Return of Pony Express.
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot Seat
UVA did beat BYU, as we now know. London is doing a fine job, and has actually pulled level with VT in recruiting. Don't look now, but VT is starting a slow downward spiral.
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot SeatHot seat?' What hot seat? Nothing that a few umbrella drinks and a couple of tiki torches can't cure.
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot Seat
His offense produced 4 attempted field goals and a touchdown on a QB scramble when it was still a game. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot Seat
"Entering his junior season, Justin Willis already holds SMU's all-time record with 51 touchdown passes. Last year, in which he was voted All-Conference USA honorable mention, he produced four of the top 15 most prolific total yardage games in school history. He's started 22 of the Mustangs' 24 games over the last two years. He can make dramatic, dazzling plays with his arm or his feet. He is by far the team's most athletic, most experienced quarterback and arguably its best overall player. But in Dallas' most confusing outcome this side of Jenny the elephant staying put, Willis will not start when SMU opens the 2008 season Friday night at Rice. Instead, as No. 3 on the depth chart behind two true freshmen quarterbacks, he'll be on the sideline, holding a clipboard and pondering a transfer."
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot SeatSMU is a basketball school. . . I fully support Larry Brown and his staff who "EVALUTE" 4-5 star talent, and find a way to get them to commit to SMU

Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot SeatWould do a backflip if we could get Mike London...
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot Seat
Because people don't pay attention to SMU football and just regurgitate that just like they would about Mike Leach regardless of how his offense performed for the next decade.
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot SeatGive Mikey time.
10 years from now the same complaints people have about June on this board they'll have about the 'Pirate.' Outdated offense, times passed him by, etc.
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot Seatnow that Kiffin got fired, JJ should be moving up on this list
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot SeatBRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: Jones #7 on Coaches Hot Seat
He was #39 on the list last week. Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
