That avatar is the product of one night playing on the computer with one of my sons. We love logos and we made that one up ourselves by copping the horse and diamond pic from another school.

Here's another SMU logo we made up:

If you know your horse mascots, you'll know that mustangs are always (almost) depicted with their heads UP (like the Hayden Fry helmet logo)... heads DOWN is for Broncos.

Well, that is interesting to know. In fact, both my avitar and the above logo were lifted from schools that had Broncos as their mascots: Santa Clara for the avitar and Pan Am (I think) for the above.

Is that to depict the natural movements of these beasts, is it symbolic or is it meant to differentiate one from the other?

Maybe he's basing it on the position of our players' heads after the majority of their games over the last few years.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Here is the one from the Dave Smith era. Probably for his first season
in 73.

I found that logo on the Internet awhile back and fixed it up a bit. It was from an old decal and had a bunch of scuffs on it, so I cleaned it up and attached the letters to make it my own.

Plano's decal is nice. I love the diamond shaped SMU and the features on Peruna are sharp.

now this 'tradition' & it sells!!!!

i've always believe that behind every logo, there is a little bit of historical or symbolic importance, fact or whatever of why 'that' logo is depicted a certain way -

that's what is lost on all this new $%%$#!!!!

I posted the above decal on my previous post on here a few months ago
I believe. Maybe in response to one of your posts. I'm thinking you cut
out the kicking pony, and cleaned it up a bit to use as your avatar for
awhile. :D

Original SMU Mustang Bobblehead bought at the Cotton Bowl, circa 1961. Sorry about the glare from the flash on the SMU jersey. This bobblehead is in pretty good condition considering its age. The head spring is a little rusted and there's a little chipping of the paint around the shoes but, other than that, it's in good shape. Note the one bar face mask! The helmet does not have a Mustang on it.

Found this in my Dad's SMU stuff. It is on the back cover of a March
1950 Limbo Magazine put out by the then 'SMU Campus' newspaper.

Cool pic, planostang! Ken Grantham went on to have his own dealership in the DFW area. I think it was a Ford house.

Van Winkle Pontiac dealership was on Oak Lawn Ave. in the building that was - until last week - occupied by Park Place Mercedes/Lexus. The building is now vacant.

Dunno. The son of the owner of Van Winkle Pontiac went to high school with me at HP in the early to mid-70s. He always drove a new Firebird.
