I realize that we on this board are all disappointed in the outcome. But I wonder how someone that watched the game and has no real emotional connection to SMU feels?

Imagine one went to te SMU game. They really don't know much about the school or team. And they watch a dramatic come from behind win. A great punt return to end the 1st half and a great performance by the D and O in the 4th quarter.

Perhaps others would see this as one exciting game.

I gave my tickets to just such a casual fan. I hope he went and I will be very interested to hear about his experience.

How many 17 point come from behind with last minute score wins do people get to see?

And I ma not taking up for JJ or making excuses for our sorry performance, I just think that might be one heck of an experience for someone just watching SMU for the first time.

Our players were not coached up last night. June just walked around, looked apathetic, and counted the minutes until time to head home and go to bed. When the head coach fails to lead (he got lucky with the win last night), how can you expect the team to respond and follow?
I'm very worried.

our offensive line looks horrendous. how is it that montana state's looks decidedly better? we are going to get massacred this season. there are fortunately a few conference opponents who deserve to be in the fcs so we might get another win or two but I can't stop laughing at the people who mention a bcs birth...

I brought my uncle who played against June at U of Idaho. He thought it was pretty awful football, couldn't believe Gilbert was a #1 recruit, thought our WRs had terrible hands and didn't think what we were running was the run-and-shoot. He asked why are band is so small and why they play "she'll be coming around the mountain" incessantly and why there were high school bands on the field. Big fan of Eric Dickerson though. Basically, they see what any other person without rose-colored glasses on sees. Disorder and bad fundamental football. He asked when I wanted to leave up until Taylor ran in that punt.

What kind of performance does your uncle want from Gilbert? He was very good last night.

The product on the field is not good. No energy, lack of effort from coaching staff, no drive to do ALL you can. 6 win seasons are NOT the goal for WORLD CHANGERS!

Case in point. With 57 seconds left in the half, JJ takes his equipment (head set) off and starts walking to the end zone. Dump luck (or a player with desire) takes the kickoff for TD. JJ quit, was lazy, does not try hard and it is starting to show through the team.

Hart or Turner need to work something out with JJ ASAP. Love what JJ has done in the past but after the Arizona thing... he is taking money and not working.

I love my university so I will go on record... JJ needs to show... set an example of a honorable man... and retire.

We are so used to garbage we don't notice how bad we stink even when we look "good". Gilbert was fine by our standards and I'll take no INTs anyday but he threw too high and too slow on several occasions, costing us a TD and nearly giving up a pick 6 particularly. Hey, you guys asked...

BTW nearly identical observations have come from other friends who honestly have gone to the games expecting to see great football. You can say I'm a turd, he's a turd, they're a turd but the empty seats don't lie. We don't have a lot of returning non-SMU customers.

I think the poor passing is on the receivers not GG but I may be wrong.

SMUer - the passing statistics are pretty good. I think we have a good offense. We could have put up 40+ points in both games had we had better special teams in the TECH game and better officiating in the Montana State game; and better defense in both games. If we go forward and win another 5 to 6 games we will be in another bowl game and considered a good football team. If we only win another 2 or 3 we will be considered a weak team and perhaps some changes will be made. It is way too early to know which will be true. Quite frankly I hope we win 10 games. But then I just enjoy watching SMU win. I guess that makes me a fan.

They definitely look vulnerable, problem is we don't have the horses to fully exploit those vulnerabilities thanks to embarrassingly weak trench play and a lack of gamebreakers.

Ill take 35-48 from GG every single game and like you said the recievers dropped some easy passes so it could have been 40-48. GG also leads the nation in comletions and we have 2 Recievers in the top 10 in catches. But it does look odd that with all those completions there is only 1 TD. I think if we need to start running the ball more in the red zone because the short passes are a lot easier to defend with a shortened field.

That's because our talent shows when we get into the red zone.

I think it has more to do with play calling. I finally saw a playmaker on the field last night but unfortunatley he was only returning kicks. I believe that is what we lack the most. KC looks like he can be one as well.
