Don't let the frustration get the better of you. Our team may not be where we wish it was and we may question the philosophy behind our recruiting but personally attacking JJ's integrity is ignorant and uncalled for. He doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve but he never has. He wears black because he always has. He believes in the symbolism of the islands because he always has. He came here to be successful doing things the way he did them in Hawaii. He has tried to do that and as yet has failed to match that standard. He let himself and his team down hugely with the Maryland and ASU nonsense, for that he can be criticized, but he has done his job the way he was always going to. Is it time for a new direction, quite possibly, but taking out your frustrations on June in this manner is just the sort of thing which will discourage coaches from taking the job. I would also point out that as it stands JJ and the offense are the one area of hope this team has. The D is in shambles.

There's Abu! I was wondering when he was going to slink out of his hole to defend JJ. What a joke. He needs to go and you need to get over love affair with him. Maybe you should head to the islands with him He doesn't care about our school anymore. We're not Hawaii and we don't want to Hawaii. Just because he's always done something doesn't mean itS ok or what is good for us. FIRE JUNE NOW

Thank you for your opinion, but that does not negate the fact that after the ASU debacle (SO PUBLIC) most would quietly look to retire within a short time gracefully. JJ cares nothing about SMU and never has. Funny he has these traditions he honored, but he never adopted any of ours. If he came here to be successful, he would have found something likable about SMU besides his paycheck. Count me as one of the embarrassed. Enough is Enough---you and your hallowed traditions can sail back to the Islands, June.

The bottom line is that it doesn't matter if June can coach if HE "doesn't get it". And, he doesn't; he would have hired the recruiters instead of friends if he got it.

The fact that Timmy f*cking Chang is our running backs coach should speak volumes that he doesn't get it

well I know I'm not ignorant but I took my blinders off and I still say it's time for JJ to go! I don't think I want any college coach who has time to read PFs coaching our team either!

I agree with both Abu and stallion about June as a coach. He still needs to go as he still has not shown the ability to recruit the talent necessary to win. When I asked him last year to retire I did so because of his recruiting failures and although he appears to have worked harder at it last year he still did not come up with a wining class. Now there are a few players who may actually turn out to be good D1 players. I also think our current roster is a step up in talent over Bennett 's roster. The problem is it is not a big enough step up. Yes Coach Jones should go.

This is silly. There were a lot of us who wanted Hawaiian-style SMU shirts when JJ first arrived. His islands influence wasn't a problem then, and it's irrelevant now. So what if he likes black shirts? So what makes references to things he identified with in Hawaii? Completely meaningless.
The comment about Chang is even more ridiculous. The list of coaches who got their start by coaching for their former coaches (Major Applewhite spent 4 years coaching running backs) is a mile long. A lot of coaches coach a lot of different positions.

We almost lost to a Division 2 school. That is embarrassing.
Wonder what your opinion was of our BB program 2 years ago.

No offense xc, but a 15 year-old kid that follows college football would 'get it' as well. This is not rocket science. The question is why doesn't JJ make the necessary changes that even a child could understand. Is he being held back by our administration as MexMustang seems to think, or is JJ too lazy/set in his ways? I think it is more of the latter but I don't completely dismiss Mex. Look at JJ's last 2 recruiting classes (I am including this season). By my count, of the 37 commitments, 14 had no other offers, 4 had one other offer (Yale, Rice, Rice and Tulane), while 9 others had offers that would clearly identify them as DIR players (kids with offers from schools such as Cornell, NTSU, Ark St, Penn, Old Dominion, Texas St, UTSA). That's almost 75% of your roster and you wonder why we can't hang with the Big Boys or why it is so difficult to take out a D2 school at home? JJ has won 32 games as HC of SMU. Over HALF have been against either D2 opponents or teams that have averaged less than 3 wins. That is our reality and to think that JJ will miraculously change after 6 years is IMO wishful thinking, or more succinctly, foolish thinking. Oh, and for all our criticisms of PB, his DIR recruiting ratio was not 75%, he was better than that.....without the recent changes to our Model.....without the exposure of our 4 straight bowl appearances.....without our 'moderately' better conference affiliation. And for those who say Rivals and stars and offers don't matter, JJ's 3 best recruits from last year, Shead, Minor and Gaines were at the top of our class per Rivals. I am thrilled they are Mustangs and expect big things from them. They are the type of players you can build championships around.
