Borderline Bowl Team?

Postby Rebel10 » Sun Sep 08, 2013 7:15 pm

Didn't June say in the fall camp that this was the deepest team he has had? Now we have some (not all) the hard core JJ supporters saying this is a borderline bowl team because we are having a hard time replacing 3 players? I guess by saying borderline if they just wins 5 games it's okay and June should be commended.

What bowl on the border would want us? Is Laredo offering the Cartel Special?

Luby's Bowl Presented by Life Alert will get our coaching staff motivated.

Looks like SMU got some votes on the misery index.

Yes, the team I saw on Saturday did look like a borderline bowl team. I don't think they're going to change the rules to let FCS teams play in bowls though.

Maybe we do have better depth, but that doesn't erase the fact that we lost a load of starters with a lot of experience. These depth guys might become strong players, but they have to do it in games before they completely replace anyone.

The burrito bowl presented at chipotle could be a good fall back plan if Lubys doesn't work out

As you said that teams lose starters every year. Can't wait to hear the other talking points. I think the first one if we play poorly against aTM and/or TCU will be "what did you expect?" or "this is what was expected."

Recruiting depth is easy. It is always there. We all have about the same number of players. It is recruiting GOOD depth that is difficult.

Rebel10, I don't think you are hearing what is being said. It doesn't matter if everybody on this board likes Coach Jones or hates him. He's SMU's coach until people with more power than any of us decides different. In the meantime I'm gonna go to the games and enjoy it when SMU wins and be upset when SMU looses. If Coach Jones has a bad season then people with power might change their feelings. But now, after years of terrible football, Jones is golden. He wins a couple more bowl games and he will be enshrined into the SMU Hall of Fame.

Everybody on this board realizes that we will probably loose to A&M and TCU. I would be very surprised if anyone thinks we SHOULD win either game. If it were up to me I would have replaced A&M last year because we have no business playing them.

What I want to see is 10+ wins. I've said that over and over on this board. I don't care who is the coach as long as we start winning 10 games a year. I don't ask for 70 to 13 wins; 31 to 30 is okay with me. I doubt I'm gonna see ten wins anytime soon. But, that is all that matters because that is probably the only way SMU gets to the next level.

Gripe about Coach Jones all you want but it is a waste of time and most everyone on this board knows it; even the gripers.

I am talking about our quality of play against aTm and TCU. Not whether we win or lose. So you misunderstood me.

Do you expect us to beat those teams? I don't. I expect us to play hard and compete, but A&M and TCU have more talent. That doesn't mean we can't beat them, but it isn't likely. Saying that doesn't make me or anyone else an apologist; just a realist. In the meantime, I'm going to spend the next two weeks rooting for Alabama and hoping we can conjure up a plan to shock the world in College Station!

I expect us to play hard and compete but if we don't do that I think the JJ apologists will say "I expected that." Did you not read my post?

Yes, I read it (but thanks for asking).

If we lose in College Station or Fort Worth, there might be some who say they expect those results. I don't think you'll find anyone except the Hate-JJ Crowd saying they expected poor effort.

It's OK. We can agree to disagree. :)
