Seriously again. Is that really a valid criticism of JJ? He's gotten us from worst in the nation to where we're an upper third team in a mid-tier conference. Find me two or three other teams in that category (upper third in a mid-level conference) and tell me where they got their wins. I'd bet they were either against D2 opponents or teams that averaged less than 3 wins.

Put it this way, if JJ had more than half of his wins against D1 opponents and teams that average more than 3 wins, we'd be Top 25. It's a meaningless stat.

JJ saved us from becoming RICE.

JJ cannot help us to become TCU.

Thanks for what you've done. But time to make the next step without you. If you're going to recruit in Texas, you've got to have a fiddle in the band.

Rice would kill us this year, and the frogs likely will kill us.

We also lost to Rice by 3 touchdowns last year

We beat tcu at their place two years ago. One game does not refute his point.

If anybody wants to put up the what$ $4 Million? to buy him off then by all means, you can fire him. I'd argue you're wasting your time on this board - find out someone on the CoC and e-mail them telling them how much JJ stinks.

Outside of that, June has

shown he can coach
shown he can take horrible teams to the 'next level'
helped get us into a conference that has access to a BCS bowl game
done it cleanly.

But all he has done the past few years is lead us to winning seasons and is 3 for 4 in bowls. June finishes out his contract.

Heck, I'd argue he's gone in two years regardless. If you want to postulate who will be our next coach, fine. My vote right now is for the guy at ULL, Hudspeth.

You are such an apologist for JJ it is amazing. Having over half your victories against teams averaging less than 3 wins is hardly meaningless. You simply have no idea what you are talking about, but here's a tip, I would hold off on that Top 25 talk until JJ improves on his 6-25 record vs teams with winning records.

Of course you are silent on his 75% DIR recruiting, care to provide any pearls of wisdom on that?

Oh, and here's what I found when I googled college conference rankings:

Sagarin rated the FBS leagues in this order (the number in parentheses is Sagarin's "central mean," which weighs the middle teams in each league more heavily than ranked those higher or lower in his rankings):

1. Big 12 (82.27)
2. SEC (81.16)
3. Pac-12 (79.07)
4. Big Ten (75.79)
5. Independents (73.55)
6. Big East (70.02)
7. Atlantic Coast Conference (68.92)
8. Western Athletic Conference (64.72)
9. Mountain WestConference(63.95)
10. Sun Belt (63.78)
11. Mid-American Conference (61.33)
13. Conference USA (59.54)

How did the Big 12 sneak past the SEC to take home Sagarin's crown during the regular season? Because unlike the SEC, the Big 12 had no soft middle -- nine of the league's 10 teams won at least six games in 2012.

Sorry, didn't include the best part of all.

"You might notice that the above list jumps from No. 11 MAC to No. 13 Conference USA. Where's No. 12? According to Sagarin, the 12th-best football conference in the NCAA was the Missouri Valley Conference, an FCS league whose members include North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Illinois State, among others. It wasn't a banner year for Conference USA, to put it mildly."

June is a great coach...when he wants to be. Fresno State was 9-3 and favored by like 20 in the Hawaii Bowl. I told my friends that I expected us to beat the crap out of them because June wants to win in Hawaii. The result of the game speaks volumes. That is my problem with June.

In a post game interview last year, June said he coaches to win the conference home games and hopes to steal one or two others. That's playing for 7 wins at best. I want a coach that tries to win them all.

Just to play devil's advocate, one could make the argument that June got us out of that awful conference...

Agree that JJ initially helped us get out of CUSA, but with the inclusion of Tulane & Tulsa, we would have gotten in regardless.

For the record, I think he is a good coach. My frustration is that if he had half the passion of Larry Brown, or simply hired Texas recruiters that were passionate about recruiting (remember Ron Meyer's staff?, nobody out worked them) we truly could be a Top 30 program.

A real missed opportunity and at the worse possible time for SMU. He gets to go back to the islands with his $$$. We are left with what might have beens.

A top 10 FCS school can play with the bottom 20 or 40 teams from the Div 1 level and beat them. If they play a home and home they can probably win 40-50% of the time. A top 10 FCS school can occasionally upset even a Top 25 school. That is why you don't play certain teams on the road. Nothing to be ashamed of and shouldn't look down on those programs.

June had beat Rice 3/5 and lost 2/5. Hardly elevating us past their level. We ARE their level!

Consider that we lost the game the first season June was here and went 1-10 and that this season would have been at SMU. The home team usually wins that game. That said, I was pretty ticked that we lost that game last year. I am not defending June, just making an argument that we are a better program.
