If the NCAA holds true, Slap on the wrist. Assuming the allegations are proven true

A friend of mine who grew up in OK once told me about what he described as the fundamental dynamic of college football in OK. It went like this:

Whenever there is a period where OSU's program has the edge over OU's, that period is always followed a year or two later by OSU being investigated and going on probation.

It made me laugh when he said it. Came to mind as I read this.

There may be enough here for the NCAA to give Oral Roberts the death penalty.

Who wants to bet that Tulsa University football is on probation by the end of the season? Sorry, but the infractions are so egregious that a worthy victim, not just an unknown victim, must be punished.

Though SI I am sure really feels they have accomplished a great scope, I wouldn't be impressed until they nail an Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, A$M, Oregon, Nebraska or LSU.

Anybody, and I do mean anybody, that thinks every Top 50 program is dirty is either naive, stupid, or both.

Everybody is cheating and has been cheating for a long, long time.

Yes. Can't touch the top programs. Penn State, Miami and Ohio State have really been hurt by their sanctions.

The first time as tragedy, second time as farce.

I'm assuming you mean that anyone who thinks every Top 50 program is NOT dirty is either naive, stupid, or both.

Totally agree. Big time college football is a filthy business. If you get to the top of that shit-pile, you are gonna have some stank on ya.

Depends on how bad OU wants them to go down. You just can't have 2 football powers in Oklahoma.

Exactly why I think Tulsa will be the fall guy. OSU will learn that they just might be next and better start losing to OU a bit more.

It’s the scared straight idea. Show a perp haw badly the punishment can be (by hammering Tulsa) and watch OSU clean up its winning act.

All cynacism aside, the OSU AD has just come out and publically apologized to the other member institutions for what's about to happen. His tone was completely restrained and more than a bit conciliatory - not a bit of 'we're gonna to fight this' to his posture. This doesn't sound like someone who expects to come out on top.

Maybe I'm being presumptious, but this one looks like it's going to be bad. Maybe not DP bad, but bad.

SI claims they have 60 players who have talked - sixty. Assistant coaches as well. Now ESPN is reporting it, and believe me, ESPN does not want to publicize SI.

The OSU boards have, alongside of the predictable 'this is BS' posts, immediately screamed to lawyer up. I think even they know they're in trouble.

I don't think this is going away anytime soon.

leopold,

The precedent has been set. As long as you act in a remorseful manner and throw yourself on the mercy of the court, the NCAA has no interest in actually punishing you (especially if you're a cash cow program). The NCAA no longer has any interest or incentive to nuke its own revenue procuders.

A key to watch for as this palys out:

Has the NCAA stop selling OSU football jerseys yet? If so, then one knows the punishment will be some specialty team contributor sitting out the first half of the next game as punishment.

NCAA fan shop to no longer offer school merchandise
Last Updated - August 26, 2013 1:13 GMT

Moving forward, the NCAA online shop will no longer offer college and university merchandise. In the coming days, the store’s website will be shut down temporarily and reopen as a marketplace for NCAA championship merchandise only.

After becoming aware of issues with the site, we determined the core function of the NCAA.com fan shop should not be to offer merchandise licensed by our member schools.
