Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in OctoberPluckers.....
BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in OctoberIf you have never been to the BLVD, which it sounds like ... you have to hit the BLVD like many have suggested. It is a very neat experience. If you take DART to Mockingbird station, it's about a 10-15 min walk. In addition to the bars that have been mentioned at Mockingbird Station, you also have.
1) Twin Peaks just opened up, it's huge (ok get your mind right), lots of space, flats screens, tv's at the tables ... good atmosphere. 2) Casa Herrera (sp) has a nice indoor/outdoor bar 3) The is a small bar second level to the left of the Irish Pup ... if you are facing it ... can't recall its name.
Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in OctoberHey, we're glad that you can come. welcome to Dallas! You will probably need a rental car, but not for the game. The Mockingbird train station just across US75 offers free parking and a free shuttle to and from the game. SMU "tailgates" on the boulevard, which is the main street into campus, tree-lined, and fun. There is food and drink for sale and free offerings at some of the colleges - supposedly only for students and alumni, but my experience is that everyone is welcome regardless of school affinity.
Many of the dining suggestions were for a young crowd. If you are older or have children, many of these suggestions aren't really appropriate. I would suggest Meso Maya in downtown Dallas and maybe the restaurant at the downtown park. El Fenix is also a Dallas institution down there. Banditos, which is across the street from the campus, is reliably decent Tex Mex. Breakfasts at nearby Cafe Brazil is one of our favorites - great coffee but no booze. Also, I would not waste the trip with a detour to College Station - Panchos, seriously? There's plenty to do in Dallas. I think the Reunion tower observation deck might be reopened by then and the Aboreteum should have some good fall blooms. I agree with the other recs, although I haven't done the Perot Museum or the Bush Library yet. I also think scalping tickets is a decent option. Last year, a lady saw that we had a younger kid and just gave us tickets on the 40-yard line. That was a one-time thing, but you can find some deals. To follow up on this: 1) To understand what Twin Peaks is, think Hooters 2) Cafe Herrera 3) Trinity Hall is the Irish Pub. The People's Last Stand is the small bar you reference
Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in OctoberSomeone else Recommended Bandito's in Snider Plaza. I second that. Then again, it's right across from the law school, so maybe I'm not judging things correctly.

Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in October
Very solid, indeed but in case this becomes a sticky for future visiting fans I would recommend heading to 'Little Mexico' on Maple around Wycliffe Ave and hitting Ojeda's, Herrera's, Avila's, or one of the little taquerias for the more 'authentic' Dallas Tex-Mex. But if you are near campus, then, yeah, Banditos will do fine.

Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in OctoberAll of these suggestions sound awesome. The wife seemed pretty pumped about Ozona and then the boulevard on game day. I forgot to mention that we are 28 and 26, no kids yet, that is why we are traveling!
Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in OctoberAfter clicking on that family day flyer it says the game is at 7 PM is that set in stone?
Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in October
Go to Uptown on Friday night. Uptown is McKinney Ave and LOWER Cedar Springs Road and the surroundings.
Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in October
There is also a House of Blues and Hooters across the street from each other. It's located north of downtown Dallas in the Victory Plaza area, and right down the road from the American Airlines Center (home of the Dallas Mavericks/Dallas Stars). 2015 INDIANAPOLIS OR BUST
Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in October
most likely. it's much hotter in Dallas than what you are use to in NJ. hence many early season games are played in the early evening.
Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in OctoberJust saw on the other thread that this game is not actually set for 7PM. Kind of a bummer, was hoping for a night game.
Re: Rutgers fan coming to Dallas in October
Still could be. We will know on the 23rd. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
