Of course it matters! Even more so in football. It will take the rare individuals like Keith Frazier, Emmanuel Mudiay, Yanick Moreira, etc. who aren't as focused on attendance and are super excited about playing for a HOF coach like Larry Brown and want to stay close to home for whatever reason. I really hope we average 5,000+ this season and 7,000+ if not sell out next season.

It matters about the same in both. The staff is what really matters. USF does not have good attendance but has football coaches with local ties and they are bringing a class that has players with multiple BCS offers.

It is more marked in football because in basketball if you have 8,000 fans in Moody no one will criticize us. In football, even with 32,000 fans in Ford we still look small-time compared to SEC and Big Ten stadiums.

It's about the same relatively speaking. Again see USF who is in the AAC. It is mostly about the staff.

The woman particularly is embarrassing, but I do not see why you should jump on him for posting it. It is on the CBS website, and as they mentioned CBS will be broadcasting some games. If that is the opinion that moderately informed people have then it is worth knowing it is out there.

I understand what you mean, but I don't even think they are even moderately informed, at all. If you're supposed to know about college basketball and can't even pronounce the best point guard in the country's name, you're just a tool reading what are probably cue cards and not even a TelePrompter. Neither of them knew it and the fact that one if their positives for SMU was was "they play in moody colisiem, it's spelled differently, but that's a cool thing for him" it pathetic. What kind analysis is that? Might as well say, oh they have a subway on campus so he can eat healthy.

With all due respect I disagree. BBall kids are looking to go pro, fast, they need tv exposure and a coach with connections, and just a couple turn you into contenders. Football is a lot of time on the sidelines, a four/five year commitment and much bigger crowds in outdoor stadia. You can have a good atmosphere in moody with 2-3000 people. Ford is only bouncing when it's north of 30. Crowds are a huge factor in football recruiting.

But he does have a legit question in how is USF getting all those recruits with BCS offers while they have not been to 4 straight bowls nor do they have good attendance?

No question we should be doing much better in recruiting football players to SMU. However, to expect the same type of recruits we are pulling in for basketball is unrealistic. Going forward, it is even unrealistic to expect Jankovich to pull in top 5 players once Brown retires. Larry Brown at SMU is an exceptional circumstance and I take nothing away from what he is doing. The foundation he is laying is phenomenal, but still Nick Saban at SMU could not get it turned around as quickly as Brown is getting it done. I think the right coach could eventually get us there, but it would take more time and effort than it does in basketball.

And also what everyone seems to forget is that basketball provides a legitimate path to national championship to anyone who can get in the tournament. Football does not due to the cartel. That changes the type of player available to our football team. We can do it much better than we have been by emphasizing it, hiring some young stud recruiters and giving a better academic path for the athletes, but we are never going to compete with top ten teams for recruits until we are in a better conference.
