Bama defense against A&MAlabama adjusted their base defense to try and slow A&M down.
They went with 3 down linemen after the first two series. sometimes playing a 3-2-6 (on long down and distance plays), sometimes a 3-3-5. Most of the time, they played with 3 down linemen, took an outside backer and blitzed wide to make it look like a 4 down set (how Cowboys used to use Ware). They had the 2 middle linebackers either delay blitz or just sit in the middle of the field to spy on Johnny Football. Nickel or dime package every play. Our equivalent would be to just play Sanders and blitz him every play, have Rambo and Pope spy Manziel, and play nickel the whole game with Parks inside and JR Richardson outside. It was pretty effective for most of the game. A&M wasn't able to pass over the middle a whole lot, and JF was contained when he scrambled. Obviously exposed them over the top out wide because the safeties stayed centrally, but they forced Evans/JF to make great plays to score.
Re: Bama defense against A&MI say we get our flopping routine ready, and then try our best to run the clock off on offense so they don't hang a hundred on us.
Re: Bama defense against A&MSounds intriguing in theory but A&M will run all over a 3-2-6/3-3-5 plus in passing situations I doubt our front 7 will be able to play contain with enough discipline to keep Manziel in the pocket.

Could be a record day for flops....... Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Bama defense against A&Mit will be a huge challenge for our coaching staff to put together a plan that might allow us to compete with A$M, but I expect we will stick to what we do because as we all know..."we do what we do"
Re: Bama defense against A&M
I agree with that, but it is an interesting choice - do you risk allowing the run, or do you let them dink and dunk down the field like we normally do against these offenses, and just hope that they make a mistake or you can make negative plays? My opinion is that the teams that run these offenses have too much ego to stick with the run if you give it to them.
Re: Bama defense against A&M
aTm ran the ball more than Bama did in the first part of the game. In fact it was balanced as the announcers gave the stats. Second half they threw it more to catch up. aTm will run it if given the chance and it has nothing to do with ego just opportunity. The SMU offense is a pass heavy offense and we run one of THESE offenses. I hope you are not saying Coach Jones has that kind of ego. Why do you hope he is not saying that? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Re: Bama defense against A&MBecause I do not think he has that attitude.

Re: Bama defense against A&MJones has shown a much bigger commitment to the run. Some of that is out of necessity, but...
In 9 of A&M games last season, JM had the most number of rushing attempts on the A&M team. The numbers might come out close to balanced at the end of the game, but that is only because JM has 19 rushing attempts, the majority of which are pass plays where he pulls the ball down and runs. The offense and the pace of the offense is built around the passing game. When you run the ball, it causes people to get tangled up and slows down the pace of the game. You can't restart as quickly. Also, because you are forcing the receivers and o-line to push block, they are exerting as much effort as the defense, so the pace gets to the offense. ON passing plays, the defense exerts a lot more energy than the offense does.
Re: Bama defense against A&MJune's going to have them flopping around out there like fish out of water.
Re: Bama defense against A&M
I forgot that June had said that he would pass the ball every down if he could. We are one of those teams so no need to down the other coach as having some type of ego. In our first 2 games Gilbert has the most rushing attempts on the team. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown
