Ah, yes no better helmet than the North Carolina Midspiderman...LHS81 wrote:SMU1523 wrote:The East West Shrine Game every year is a perfect example of why athletic departments let student athletes have very little opinion over their uniforms. Actually, I like the Spider helmet.

Re: Helmets
I'm fine with tricked out helmets to attract the recruits....as long as they clean up those busy striped shoulders.ponyinNC wrote:Old white guys on pf debating about the jerseys kids where and saying no to chrome and other modern looks- this is priceless. Someone just ask the kids what they want, and what they like. I bet you they would kill to have that chrome helmet for just one game.
It ain't 1950 anymore gentleman. Classic is great. But with some modernizations. And an occasional cool alternate. Everyone could be happy.
Beat the hell out of anybody!
Re: Helmets
I'd be down with a chrome or silver helmet. I personally thought the black helmet that was floating around around the time of the Armed Forces Bowl wasn't that bad.
As for stripes, I would prefer SMU go the way of the Oregon State Pro Combat uni's from a couple of years ago with the stripe on the undershirt:

I also think the above with the Texas on the sleeve is awesome.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Well I don't believe i said "complaining" anywhere in my post. Debating is the word I used. But I am old and white and I know when to defer to the important folks- the ones actually WEARING the jerseys. Let the kids decide!

I'm 30 so I think I'm still young. If you let the kids decide we will end up changing our uniform every year and never build our brand. I actually like the current uniforms. I agree they could be improved, but don't really have a problem with them. However, given that there is pretty strong general support for the blue pony express uniforms, I can't believe our administration is so aloof that it does not respect the alumni's wishes. Just like the student-athletes should not determine the uniforms, the coach should not determine the uniform either. Just look at what PB did to our uniforms. Embrace our tradition, either the Doak Walker years or the Pony Express years but pick one and stick to it. Special editions are ok for homecoming and bowl games, but other than that we need to build a recognizable brand.
